1792
225th Anniversary
Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

The 1792 225th Anniversary Bourbon was a limited release from Barton 1792 in 2017 to commemorate the 225th anniversary of Kentucky becoming a state. According to the label “a distinct group of barrels have been carefully selected and married together” to make this bourbon. No age statement is given, but the label states “after aging nearly a decade”, so this bourbon is in the neighborhood of 10 years old. It is bottled at 92.15 proof, an unusual number chosen for specific reasons. 92 stands for the year 1792, and 15 stands for Kentucky being the 15th state to join the union. This bourbon was only sold in Kentucky.

Tasting Notes

🛏 Rested for 20 minutes in a Glencairn

👉🏻Nose: Cherries and plums, caramel, oak, cedar, chocolate, mild alcohol
👉🏻Taste: Caramel, tea, oak; light sweetness; medium body
👉🏻Finish: Caramel and light sweetness dissipate, and oak and char build for a moderately long finish with only a mild alcohol burn

This is not an overly complex bourbon, other than the nose. The nose is very pleasant, with full rich candy-like flavors and a caramel and woody undertone. The taste is that of a more traditional bourbon, but on the dry side with only mild sweetness.

Conclusion

So why I am reviewing a bourbon that is no longer available, and when it was, was only sold in Kentucky? Well for one, it was a cool commemorative release. And for another to announce that our write up of the Barton 1792 Distillery, complete with lots of photos, is now available at BourbonObsessed.com in the Distillery Reviews section, or you can go directly to the page. Stay safe you all. Cheers!🥃
