Ezra Brooks 99 Proof Bourbon

Ezra Brooks 99 Proof Bourbon Review

So, what’s the story with the Ezra Brooks 99 Proof Bourbon? According to the Ezra Brooks website: “Bottled at an elevated 99 proof for an enhanced flavor profile, this pure, oak-barrel-aged Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey is charcoal filtered for a smooth, mellow finish and features a spicy, ryed bourbon mash bill.”

Grist & Saw Empire Rye

Grist & Saw Empire Rye Review

Grist & Saw Empire Rye is, well, an Empire Rye. So what is an “Empire Rye”? It’s described as “The Whisky Style of New York State” by empirerye.com. It is a specific category of whiskey (which they apparently spell without the “e”) akin to Tennessee Whiskey. Like Tennessee Whiskey, it is not a specific designation by the TTB, and was created by a consortium of NY distilleries who wanted to establish a whiskey style for NY State.

Heaven Hill 6 Year Old Bourbon - Green Label

Heaven Hill 6 Year Old Bourbon “Green Label” Review

The Heaven Hill 6 Year Old Bourbon (Green Label) is one of those “Kentucky Only” bourbons that has a bit of a cult following, at least in some part due to the fact that it is only available in Kentucky. Interestingly, none of Heaven Hill’s KY only bourbons appear on their website. That’s a good thing, because these bourbons have been “our little secret”, but it is pretty clear that secret has gotten out.

First Call Rye Whiskey by IJW Whiskey Company

First Call Kentucky Straight Rye Review

You are probably thinking “Hey, isn’t that a new craft distillery?” Well, no. IJW has been quietly accumulating barrels since 2016 and have about 100,000 stockpiled. We’ve noticed their warehouses quietly appear over the years along the far side of Wilderness Trail’s property, but we never really knew what or who they were.

Sagamore Spirit Calvados Finish Rye Review

Sagamore Spirit Calvados Finish Rye Review

I really enjoyed this Sagamore Spirit Calvados Finish Rye when I first opened it and posted about it around 9 months ago. I quickly went through half the bottle. Then something new and shiny must have come along and distracted me, because I am just now revisiting it again.
