Owner and first distiller Kent Rabish started Grand Traverse Distillery way back in 2005, when he got the idea to open Northern Michigan’s first craft distillery. Initially at the distillery when I decided to buy the bottle, and a few times once I got home. I absolutely love this rye, and it rivals anything I have tried.
I hope you enjoy my JW Rutledge High Plains Rye Review! I have been eagerly awaiting what Jim Rutledge and his J.W. Rutledge Distillery would do next. Their first releases were the Cream of Kentucky line, an historic brand which was originally introduced in 1888 and is now owned by J.W. Rutledge. Next up is this recently released High Plains Rye.
Please enjoy this Blue Run Golden Rye review. There are a gamut of flavors in this rye, from start to finish. The lead off is the classic baking spices, which gains some black pepper as time goes on. While there is a brown sugar and honey sweetness, as well as some notes of fruit, it is overall fairly dry, especially in the finish. Although it’s a fairly spicy rye, I am enjoying the rye bread overtones as well. This is a very enjoyable rye and I’ll be looking to grab a bottle when it is released in September.
