Hidden Barn Bourbon “Hometown Barrel” Review
The Hidden Barn Whiskey brand itself is a collaboration between Nate Winegar & Matt Dankner, co-founders of the 5280 Whiskey Society, Master Distiller Royce Neeley of Neeley Family Distillery and Master Blender Jackie Zykan, formerly the Master Taster at Old Forester. The bourbons in their first series are from Neeley Family Distillery. Some single barrels were available, such as the Hometown Barrel that is the subject of this review.
Fortuna Bourbon Review
Fortuna Bourbon is brought to us by the folks at Rare Character, now joined by Andy Shapira. Yes, that Shapira. Andy is from the same Shapira family that owns Heaven Hill. So the pedigree behind this bourbon is a strong one. It is aged at least 6 years and is from an undisclosed Kentucky distillery, or possibly distilleries. Finally, it is a blend of 6 barrels. Wilderness Trail Maple Rye Review
First, Wilderness Trail made some rye whiskey. After the barrels were dumped, maple syrup from Vermont aged in them. Then, after the syrup was dumped, the barrels were filled with 5 year old rye whiskey and aged another 6 months. An voila! We have Wilderness Trail’s first finished whiskey!! What’s it like? Brother’s Bond Cask Strength Bourbon Review
Brother’s Bond Bourbon was created by Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, stars of the CW series, The Vampire Diaries. Similar to their initial release, Brother’s Bond Original Cask Strength Bourbon is made from 3 different mash bills to create an uncut, unfiltered four grain bourbon. Three Chamber Still
Years ago, Three Chamber Stills were commonly used to produce rye whiskey. The Chamber Still, as it was called, extracts more of the oils from the rye grains than many other stills. Therefore, the resultant whiskey has extra flavor and body. Also, the rye grains used at the time were lower in starch content than they are today. This combination resulted in a very rich and flavorful spirit.
