The Bourbon Created By Vampire Diaries Stars Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley
Brother’s Bond Bourbon was created by Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, stars of the CW series, The Vampire Diaries. I am not ashamed to say that while the series ran from 2009-2017 I watched every episode. Additionally, I watched every episode of its spinoff series, The Originals. As a bourbon drinker, it was difficult to overlook just how much bourbon Damon and Stefan Salvatore, the characters played by Ian and Paul, consumed during each episode. It turns out that both are real life bourbon fans. They released their first bourbon in 2021, and in 2022 released this limited cask strength version.
Similar to their initial release, Brother’s Bond Original Cask Strength Bourbon is made from 3 different mash bills to create an uncut, unfiltered four grain bourbon. The cumulative mash bill contains 65% corn, and 22% rye, with the remainder comprised of wheat and malted barley. It is distilled and aged in Lawrenceburg Indiana, with 70 barrels used to make the final blend.
Tasting Notes – Brother’s Bond Cask Strength Bourbon Review
Let’s taste it:
🛏 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn
👉🏻Nose: Dried apricots, dark plums, brown sugar, butterscotch, Graham cracker & rye spices; hints of wintergreen, anise and a very subtle floral note in the back, maybe roses? Noticeable alcohol
👉🏻Taste: Rye spices, brown sugar, caramel & subtle dried apricot
👉🏻Finish: Some sweetness lingers, but there’s a growing capsaicin spiciness that continues and builds into the long finish, with a bit of char and a nice “Indiana hug” 🤗
It takes a moment for me to get acclimated because of the proof, but once I do, Brother’s Bond Cask Strength Bourbon has some very nice flavors. The nose has the tanginess of dried apricot balanced by dark plums and brown sugar sweetness. Some Graham crackers and butterscotch add a warming confectionary note. But there is an added complexity due to subtle wintergreen, anise and even a barely noticeable background floral note, maybe roses. The taste brings mainly rye spices and brown sugar sweetness. The flavors linger into the finish, where spice rapidly becomes dominant. Finally, the finish is long, with a moderate burn.
Conclusion
I really enjoyed the first Brothers Bond release and reviewed it last October. Has it really been that long ago? These are very different bourbons, however. The first is an easy drinker, a perfect accompaniment while spending long hours with friends, or while outside on a warm day. Conversely, this cask strength bourbon is more suitable for slowly sipping and savoring, perfect for the cooler months ahead.
