Green River Distilling Co. Virtual Tour (Video)
Green River Distilling Co. Tour
(Formerly O.Z. Tyler Distillery)
The Green River Distilling Co. is located in Owensboro, Kentucky. Their story began when J.W. McCulloch began making Green River Whiskey back in 1885. Interestingly, his slogan was “The Whiskey Without A Headache”. For obvious reasons, the use of that slogan was not allowed to endure, and the current version is “Whiskey without Regrets”. Although one could dispute that one as well (sort of reminds me of “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”), that’s the slogan that is used today. Let’s hope it’s true!?
Distillery History and TerrePURE
The distillery has a complex history. It was essentially completely destroyed by fire back in 1918. After Prohibition, it was revived and subsequently became the Medley Distillery. It then changed hands a number of times. In 2014, the distillery was purchased by the Terressentia Corporation which renamed it the O.Z. Tyler Distillery in honor of the company founder. O.Z. Tyler produced whiskeys utilizing their patented TerrePURE system, a process for rapidly aging spirits. The company has since gone full circle and has recently been renamed the Green River Distilling Co. Along those same lines, Terressentia Corp has been renamed the Green River Spirits Company. The TerrePURE system is also no longer used, and the current Green River whiskeys are being matured the old fashioned way – spending time in the barrel.
Our Visit
We visited the distillery. last week and it’s a really cool place. The whiskey is tasting really good, too! We’re looking forward to their first release under the new label, hopefully arriving very soon. I hope you enjoy this short video about the distillery. There will be a full write up with lots of pictures coming soon to BourbonObsessed.com. Cheers!?
