Old Style Bourbon
Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
6 Years Old
The Heaven Hill 6 Year Old Bourbon “Green Label” is one of those “Kentucky Only” bourbons that has a bit of a cult following, at least in some part due to the fact that it is only available in Kentucky. Interestingly, none of Heaven Hill’s KY only bourbons appear on their website. That’s a good thing, because these bourbons have been “our little secret”, but it is pretty clear that secret has gotten out.
What’s so great about this bourbon? Well for one, it’s only sold in Kentucky! 😁 But seriously, it is a fantastic deal and a tasty bourbon. The bottle costs in the neighborhood of $13, which is pretty amazing for a 6 year old. It’s made from Heaven Hill’s standard rye bourbon mashbill, the same one used for things like Henry McKenna BiB. So, it’s basically a recipe for success.
Unfortunately, people remember the not too distant past when we had a similar KY only bourbon, the Heaven Hill 6 Year Old Bottled in Bond (aka “White Label”), which was discontinued. Everyone is afraid that this one will suffer the same fate.
Recently, Heaven Hill discontinued the 1.75 liter size of this bourbon. That immediately caused the rumor mill to go wild with everyone saying this bourbon is being discontinued. I have it on reliable authority that it is NOT being discontinued in the 750 ml size, and should be around for people to buy and enjoy for the foreseeable future. So please stop clearing the shelves of it! I would like to replace this bottle some day soon!😊
Let’s taste it:
🛏 Rested for 20 minutes in a Glencairn
👉🏻Nose: Rye spices, apples, honey, cornbread, dark cherry; moderate alcohol
👉🏻Taste: Light caramel, rye spices, light char, light honey; light to medium mouthfeel
👉🏻Finish: Rye spices continue and are joined by some increasing char and light oak
I like this Heaven Hill 6 Year Old Bourbon “Green Label”. It’s not going to beat some of the older Heaven Hill bourbons from this mashbill, but it is a good solid bourbon, and definitely worth its price.
