Pursuit Series Episode 5

For those who are not familiar, this company was started by the folks of the Bourbon Pursuit podcast, Kenny Coleman and Ryan Cecil. They select each barrel, sometimes with the help of their Patreon supporters. Each successive release is an “episode”.

Tasting Notes:

Neat:
Nose: butter and oak; a touch of sweet corn
Taste: butter, oak, hint of cinnamon
Finish: long, moderate burn. Oak, char, some bitterness, yet also sweetness, butter lingers

With a Large ice ball:
Nose: more subdued than when “neat”. Butter dominates.
Taste: sweet and buttery. Strong overtones of marzipan (just kidding!)
Finish: oak, butter, sweet; burn is mellowed, but finish is still fairly long

Overall impression: I really like this bourbon. I have to say, I didn’t like it much when I first opened it and drank it neat. When I added a large ice ball, I liked it more, and it brought out the buttery flavors. Now that it has been open for 4+ months, the flavors have really developed and I think it is excellent, neat or with the large ice ball. The ice subdues the flavors, and there is more oak and char and a touch more bitterness when neat. Either way it is great. Strong work boys! This bottle may be difficult to come by at this point, but look out for more great selections from these guys. They have some of their more recent “episodes” still available, and there will be many more to come.

I hope Fred Minnick (the Editor in Chief of Bourbon+ and member of the Bourbon Pursuit team, for those that don’t know) enjoys the background I selected for this photo.

Cheers!
