Early Times Bottled in Bond bourbon is a relatively new addition to the market. Early Times itself is an old brand. It was first established in 1860 by Jack Beam and A.G. Nall. The brand was successful up until shortly before prohibition when Jack and his son, Ed, who ran the distillery with him, passed away. Then prohibition closed the distillery. The brand was purchased by Brown-Forman in 1923, who originally sold Early Times Bourbon under their medicinal license.
Rittenhouse Rye is said to get its name from Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia. It is an older brand, which eventually was acquired by Heaven Hill. Rye was once America's spirit. There were two main styles of rye - Maryland Rye, which had a relatively low rye content (but at least 51%), with the rest of mash bill being made up generally of corn and malted barley. Pennsylvania (or Monongahela) Rye had a very high rye content, more similar to the 95% rye, 5% malted barley mash bill that has become synonymous with MGP rye today.

I am writing about J.W. Dant & J.T.S Brown Bottled in Bond bourbons together, because frankly, I always get them confused. While the labels might lead one to believe that these bourbons are made by The Dant Distillery Company and J.T.S Brown's Son Company (those are both the correct, albeit unusual, spellings), they are in reality made by Heaven Hill. Both are distilled at the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, KY, and both are bottled at Heaven Hill's bottling facility in Bardstown. We know this to be true, because as these are bonded bourbons, this information must appear on the label. And indeed it does: both are distilled at DSP-KY-1 and both are bottled at DSP-KY-31.

There are Spring and Fall releases every year, although the Spring release may arrive in Summer and the Fall release may arrive in winter.
This Wild Turkey 17 Year Old Bottled In Bond Bourbon is a very unique bourbon. The nose is just incredible, and unlike a lot of bourbons, all of those flavors continue on into the taste, and then even into the finish, where they are ultimately overcome by dryness and char. But that's actually welcome. The finish is almost cleansing, like Fernet-Branca after a large meal, getting me ready for my next sip. And that next sip could be quite a while a way, since the finish lasts a good long time.
