The New Benchmark Bourbon Collection

How often do we see a brand go from one “bottom shelf” bourbon to a whole new line of bourbons all at once? Not very often. But here they are, the Benchmark Bourbon Collection, 5 new bourbons all released at the same time. I was so intrigued, I had to drive to Indiana to get them!

Have you heard of George Remus bourbon? I didn’t think so. Have you heard of MGP? The company that produces the bourbon that shows up in some of your favorite brands? Well, the folks at MGP decided that they would take some of that bourbon and bottle it up and sell it themselves. One version is this George Remus Single Barrel Bourbon. You know what? It’s pretty good!

Rabbit Hole 4 grain Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Rabbit Hole Bourbon

After Pernod Ricard acquired a majority share in Rabbit Hole back in 2019, the distillery rebranded their products, with a name change to honor influential figures and places in Louisville, as well as in the life of founder Kaveh Zamanian. I have always been a bit confused by the naming of Rabbit Hole Bourbon and Rye, so I’m just going to take a minute to clarify that for myself. You all are welcome to come along!

Wildcatter Bourbon Review

  • by

This Wildcatter Bourbon is a bottle we picked up a few years back, and for some reason I am just getting around to opening it now. It was around $30 back then; pretty reasonable for an 8 year old bourbon. A quick search on Google shows that it goes for around $35 now at our local Total Wine, and it looks like the label has been revised. I did just find a bottle on sale for $25, so there are some deals out there.

Angel’s Envy Bourbon Finished in Mizunara Oak Casks Review

  • by

The Angel’s Envy Bourbon Finished in Mizunara Oak Casks was released in honor of Angel’s Envy’s Founder’s Day, the day that they filled their very first barrel. It is a blend of four year-old and nine year-old bourbons, then finished for two years in Japanese Mizunara oak casks for two more years. Only 1200 bottles were produced, so finding one of these isn’t easy. A good percentage of these sold out during an online pre-sale and on release day at the distillery. There subsequently was a very limited distribution of these bottles to bars/restaurants and retailers.
