Please enjoy our Cellar Collection Series, Vol 5 (2025) Straight Rye Whiskey Finished in French Oak Extra Añejo Tequila Barrels review!

Angel’s Envy Cellar Collection Vol 5 Straight Rye Whiskey Finished in French Oak Extra Añejo Tequila Barrels is the brand’s latest innovation, and the first Cellar Collection release overseen entirely by Angel’s Envy’s relatively new Master Distiller, Owen Martin. It became available nationwide on May 31, 2025.

According to Owen Martin: This launch is very special to me as the first Cellar Collection innovation for ANGEL’S ENVY that I oversaw from beginning to end. As a part of the vision, we collaborated with PATRÓN Tequila’s Master Distiller, David Rodriguez, to identify a parallel between the production processes. We are always striving to showcase the unique character of a finishing cask and how it can amplify our base whiskey’s dynamic flavor – this release embodies that particularly well.

The Details – Angels Envy Cellar Collection Vol 5 (2025) Review

Tasting Notes – Angel’s Envy Cellar Collection Series Vol 5 Review

Let’s taste it:

🛏 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn

👉🏻Nose: Mild rye spices; sweet citrus mix; light sweet caramel and honey; hint of black licorice; subtle sweet floral note; alcohol vapor appropriate for the proof
👉🏻Taste: Mild simple syrup sweetness and sweet caramel; sweet and tart citrus mix, mild rye spices
👉🏻Finish: Growing and lingering white pepper spice; lingering sweetness and citrus; also increasingly dry; mild char and dry wood later on; pleasant warmth

The nose has a pleasant blend of mild rye spices, sweet and tart citrus, light caramel, mild light honey and a just a hint of black licorice. There’s a subtle sweet floral note, too. The alcohol vapor is appropriate for the proof. The caramel becomes increasingly noticeable with each sip.

The taste starts off with simple syrup sweetness and sweet caramel. A sweet and tart citrus mix, with mild rye spices, develops later on. However, in the finish, there is increasing white pepper spice, and the mouthfeel becomes more dry. Yet, it has a lingering sweetness at first, and citrus is present throughout. Mild barrel char and dry wood linger in the end, and I am left with a pleasant warmth.

Conclusion

Angel’s Envy 2025 Cellar Collection has fairly consistent flavors through the nose and palate, until the increasing spice and dryness of the finish. The tequila finish is very complementary to the flavors of the rye; to the point that I may not have guessed it was there. I believe it is accentuating the citrus notes, while somewhat subduing the other characteristic rye flavors. Nonetheless, it results in a very enjoyable pour.

Have you tried Angel’s Envy 2025 Cellar Collection Vol 5? What did you think? Cheers!🥃
