Background – Augusta Small Batch Bourbon Review
Augusta Small Batch Bourbon is part of the distillery’s recently expanded core portfolio, introduced alongside its Augusta Cask Strength Wheated Bourbon. (read my Augusta Cask Strength Wheated Bourbon Review)
According to the press release, Augusta Small Batch Bourbon is “crafted from a curated selection of barrels—never more than eight—chosen to maintain depth, structure and consistency without compromising character.”
Both expressions are aged an average of seven years and are positioned as more “accessible” offerings within Augusta’s lineup. According to Master Distiller Alex Castle, the goal was to create bourbons that are not only enjoyable neat, but also versatile enough to hold up in classic cocktails.
Augusta Small Batch Bourbon is available online, at the distillery in Augusta, Kentucky, and within the brand’s 30-state distribution footprint.

Tasting Notes – Augusta Small Batch Bourbon Review
Let’s taste it:
🛏 Rested: 15 minutes in a Glencairn
👉🏻 Nose: Mildly sweet; light honey, caramel, dark cherries, raspberry jam; hint of cocoa powder; tart orange citrus; touch of dry oak; alcohol vapor appropriate for the proof
👉🏻 Taste: Mildly to moderately sweet; light honey, caramel, tart orange citrus, raspberry jam; mild dry oak
👉🏻 Finish: Raspberry jam and caramel linger; increasing and lasting black pepper; progressively dry; mild dry oak and char later on; long with a pleasant warmth and lingering dryness
Layered Fruit, Confectionery Notes, and a Drying Finish
The notes in the nose of Augusta Small Batch Bourbon vary from sniff to sniff. The stone fruits oscillate between dark cherries and raspberry jam, while tart orange citrus rises and falls in prominence. The confectionery notes of honey and caramel also shift in intensity. A bit of dry oak and a light dusting of cocoa powder round out the nose.
Many of those same flavors carry into the palate, although the dark cherries are less evident. The level of sweetness varies slightly from sip to sip. As the bourbon moves into the finish, the fruit notes linger, but the profile becomes progressively drier and spicier. As the flavors dissipate, what remains is a dry mouthfeel with mild dry wood, char, and lingering raspberry jam.
A Full-Flavored Pour with a Dry, Spicy Finish
I am very much enjoying this bourbon. If you go for a full-flavored pour with a variety of fruits and confectionery notes up front, followed by a drier, spicier finish, this is one you are going to want to try. Have you had Augusta Small Batch Bourbon? What did you think? Cheers!🥃
