From the back label: The Borchetta name is synonymous with success. Music, motorsports, spirits, philanthropy are just some of the family’s many areas of pursuit. The core of their success is based in Nashville, TN, which is also the home of this finely-crafted Small Batch Borchetta Bourbon from their family-owned Big Machine Distillery. Every barrel of Borchetta Bourbon is distilled in-house in their two copper pot stills, one of which is the original functioning still in the heart of downtown Nashville just off Lower Broadway. (Big Machine also has a distillery in Lynnville, TN, where this bourbon was also distilled and bottled. You can learn all about Big Machine’s Lynnville distillery in our Big Machine Distillery Tour.)

Tasting Notes – Borchetta Small Batch Bourbon Review
Let’s taste it:
🛏 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn
👉🏻Nose: Sweet corn and corn bread, simple syrup, light brown sugar, mild malty graininess, hint of maple syrup; tart tangerines; mild alcohol vapor
👉🏻Taste: Cornbread, simple syrup, light caramel, mild maltiness, mild char; fairly light bodied
👉🏻Finish: Mild white pepper spice; increasingly dry, mild char and dry wood; lingering tart citrus; moderately long with a mild warmth.
The nose is full bodied, as would be expected for a pot still distilled bourbon. It’s fairly sweet, with sweet corn and corn bread, simple syrup, light brown sugar, a mild graininess and a hint of maple syrup, along with some tart tangerines. The alcohol vapor is mild, as would be expected for its 80 proof.
The taste brings similar flavors of corn bread, simple syrup, light caramel and a mild maltiness. There is a touch of barrel char, as well. However, the flavors are fairly light and the mouthfeel a bit thin. Mild white pepper spice becomes noticeable in the finish, which is increasingly dry with mild barrel char and dry wood. Tart citrus lingers, as well. The finish is moderately long, with a mild warmth.
Summary – Borchetta Small Batch Bourbon Review
I am a pot still bourbon fan, and this bourbon definitely has enjoyable characteristic pot still flavors throughout, although they are the boldest in the nose. Given that, the flavors in the taste, and the mouthfeel, were lighter than I was anticipating. However, as this bourbon is only 80 proof, the lighter flavors are not necessarily unexpected. Nonetheless, I can’t help but wonder what it might be like at 10, or even 20, proof points higher. That would likely make the mid-palate a bit more full flavored and full bodied. Even so, the mild spice and dryness in the finish, along with the tart citrus throughout, provide a nice contrast to the sweeter flavors up front.
Conclusion – Borchetta Small Batch Bourbon Review
Overall, I am enjoying this bourbon. It has pleasant flavors, and it is quite easy to drink. If you are a fan of the flavors of well-made pot still bourbon and are looking for a pour that’s on the lighter side, then you’ll want to give Borchetta Small Batch Bourbon a try! Have you had it? What did you think? Cheers!🥃
