But First, Here’s What’s New on BourbonObsessed.com!

This week, we have reviews of new bourbons from Heaven Hill, Never Say Die, Jack Daniel’s and Bardstown Bourbon Company, as well as an article about Maker’s Mark’s subscription service, the Whisky Drop.

  • Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series Twice Barreled Rye Review – The latest release in Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series is Twice Barreled Rye. After the rye was fully matured, it was then placed in a second new charred American white oak barrel and aged for an additional 2 1/2 years. Full Review.
  • Bardstown Bourbon Company Origin Series High Wheat Bourbon Review – The newest addition to Bardstown Bourbon Company’s Origin Series is made with a whopping 39% wheat in its mash bill! It also uses a low barrel entry proof of 108, which allows the extraction of more wood sugars from the barrel. Full Review.
  • Whisky Drop by Maker’s Mark Review – The Whisky Drop is Maker’s Mark’s quarterly subscription service. Members receive 2 bottles each quarter, with the bottles being either limited or seasonal releases, or special Private Selections. I have been a member since the inception of the program. Read all about my experiences in my review.
  • Never Say Die Small Batch Bourbon Whiskey Review – Never Say Die Bourbon is distilled and aged in Kentucky, then takes a voyage to England. There, it is aged another year, and then proofed and bottled. Initially NSD Bourbon was only sold in the UK, however, bottles began arriving back in the US earlier this year. Full review.
  • Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Wheated Bourbon Review – Heaven Hill’s new Grain to Glass Collection features all new mash bills and celebrates the brand’s “long-standing commitment to quality, sustainability, and craft.” The Wheated Bourbon is one of the first 3 releases. Full Review.

Now, on to the news!

Distillery & Bourbon News For August 23, 2024

  • Tik Tok allows Alcohol Advertising in the U.S. – as reported by multiple sources recently (Harpers.co.uk, The Spirits Business, etc), Tik Tok is now allowing the advertising of alcoholic beverages, associated items, services and events in the U.S., with certain restrictions. As the social media platform has matured, Tik Tok’s users now have demographics which allow it to advertise alcoholic beverages in concordance with the guidelines of DISCUS (The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States). Those guidelines require that at least 73.8% of the audience be over 21, a threshold which recently was met by Tik Tok. If you were wondering where that number came from, it represents the percentage of the US population that is over 21. All the details can be found in Tik Tok’s Alcohol Policy

  • Kentucky Distillers’ Association joins the World Spirits Alliance – The Kentucky Distillers’ Association (KDA) has been inducted into the World Spirits Alliance (WSA), a prestigious international trade association based in Geneva, Switzerland. This membership marks a significant milestone for the KDA, which has represented Kentucky Bourbon since 1880. As a WSA member, the KDA will collaborate with global spirits leaders to promote sustainable growth, responsible practices, and a unified vision for the industry. The KDA’s inclusion in the WSA highlights its historic achievements and ongoing contributions to the global spirits industry. (Press Release)

  • O.H. Ingram River Aged has announced a significant expansion. They’ve purchased 24 acres of land in Columbus, Kentucky, overlooking the Mississippi River. This new property includes the site of the former Iron Banks Lodge and sits above their original floating rickhouses. The company plans to grow their operations and hospitality offerings on this site, leveraging the unique aging process of their whiskey, which they call “Mellowed on the Mississippi.” (Press Release)

  • Introducing SirDavis Whisky – Just when you thought there wasn’t going to be another celebrity whiskey (not that anyone ever thought that…), Beyoncé has thrown her hat in the ring, complete with a “Great-Grandfather was a moonshiner” story, believe it or not. Beyoncé and Moët Hennessy have launched SirDavis, a new American whiskey. Said to be inspired by her family history as well as her love of Japanese Whisky, the unique blend of rye and malted barley is finished in sherry casks. SirDavis Whisky is available for pre-order and will be in stores nationwide and select locations globally in September 2024. $89. Full details are in the Press Release.

  • Evan Williams Bourbon today announced a new partnership with Learfield, the media and technology company with ties to more than 1,200 of the nation’s top collegiate properties across its enterprise, for a multiple-year deal beginning this August.  As part of this sponsorship, Evan Williams will be one of the first Bourbons to partner with some of our nation’s top college athletic programs, including University of Florida, Syracuse University, TCU, Ohio State University and University of Alabama. The partnership will be activated through in-stadium signage, branded bar spaces, and tailgate activations at the five select schools. In addition, it will also be promoted through local and regional media, in store and on-premise, beginning with the 2024 NCAA football season. The partnership also marks the debut of Evan Williams’ national college sports platform – ‘Evan Williams Bourbon Nation’, rolling out nationally this spring. That all sounds great, but what about the University of Kentucky?? Press Release.
