But First, Here’s What’s New on BourbonObsessed.com!

Before we get on with the news, I would like to share some of my latest bourbon reviews, as well as my in-depth article about Wheated Bourbon!

  • Wheated Bourbon: The Ultimate Guide – Wheated bourbons have a loyal following, but what makes them different? This guide breaks down how replacing rye with wheat in the mash bill impacts flavor, explores popular brands, and provides recommendations for those looking to try or expand their collection of wheated bourbons. Read full guide here.
  • Stranahan’s Founder’s Release Single Malt Whiskey Review – Stranahan’s Founder’s Release commemorates the historic moment on January 19th, 2025, when American Single Malt became the first new whiskey category to be recognized in over 50 years. For Stranahan’s, who have been making single malt whiskey in Denver for 20+ years, this was a truly meaningful moment. Learn all about this 12 year old American Single Malt in my review! Read my full review here.
  • Lasso Motel Le Stave Bourbon Review – Lasso Motel Le Stave is distilled at Green River Distilling. It was aged four years before receiving a secondary finish with French oak staves for approximately six months. In her review, guest reviewer Laura Becker felt that the Lasso Motel Le Stave feels sophisticated, much like the French culture. Read Laura’s full review to find out why!
  • Chicken Cock Small Batch Bourbon Review – Chicken Cock’s latest Small Batch Bourbon is distilled from a mash bill of 70% corn, 21% Rye & 9% Malted Barley. It is aged for 5 years and bottled at 100 proof. It’s an enjoyable, easy to drink bourbon, that begins fairly sweet and turns drier and spicier later on. Read my full review here.
  • High N’ Wicked Bourbon Review – High N’ Wicked’s core bourbon release is made from a high rye mash bill utilizing a sweet mash, distilled in a column still, aged 5 years and bottled at 104 proof. It’s a tasty pour that transitions from fruit forward, at first, to more dry and spicy in the finish. Read my full review here.

New whiskey releases are continuing at a rapid pace. We’ve got quite a few this week:

• Lost Lantern Introduces their Spring 2025 Collection – Launching on April 2nd, the Lost Lantern Spring 2025 Collection is entirely focused on New American Finishing Traditions. The collection includes the following whiskeys (prices not provided, but are reported to be $80-$100*):

  • Opulent Orchard, a 7-year-old rye whiskey, distilled by New York Distilling Co, finished in apple brandy casks
  • An apple brandy-finished mesquite-smoked New Mexico single malt from Santa Fe Spirits

• Bardstown Bourbon Company Distillery Reserve Cathedral French Oak – The inaugural release of Bardstown Bourbon Company’s new Distillery Reserve series is Cathedral French Oak Finish. It is a blend of Kentucky bourbons, aged between 9 to 18 years, and then finished for 14 months in barrels made of 300-year-old French Oak from the legendary Bercé Forest in the Loire Valley. The oak was originally harvested to restore Notre Dame Cathedral. (110.1 proof; $99.99 for a 375ml bottle) Available at the distillery’s gift shops. My review is coming soon! Read the full press release here.

• Jack Daniel’s 14-Year-Old Tennessee Whiskey Announced – Jack Daniel’s has introduced a 14-year-old Tennessee Whiskey, along with 12-Year-Old Batch 3 and 10-Year-Old Batch 4. It’s the oldest age-statement for Jack Daniel’s in the last 100 years or more. Given the fairly high proof and the high age statement, I anticipate that this whiskey will be fairly difficult to find. (126.3 proof; $149.99 for a 700ml bottle) Read the full press release here.

• Old Elk Slow Cut Blended Straight Bourbon Evolves with New Release – Old Elk has further evolved their Slow Cut Blended Straight Bourbon. This latest iteration continues to build on Old Elk’s award-winning high-malt straight bourbon mash bill, aged 4 to 7 years, and blended with Old Elk select straight bourbons. Good news for fans is that the price of this bourbon is lower than the price of the Old Elk Blended Straight Bourbon Whiskey that it is replacing. (88 proof; $39.99 for a 750ml bottle) Read the full press release here.

• Michter’s Barrel Strength Rye 2025 Release – Michter’s has announced the return of its Barrel Strength Rye for 2025. It is a single barrel product, and a Kentucky Rye, meaning the percentage of rye used is near the minimum allowed for the style, although the exact mash bill is not provided. Michter’s Ryes are always top notch, so I expect this release to be excellent, as well. (Proof varies by barrel, average 110.5; $120 for a 750ml bottle) Read the full press release here.

• Orphan Barrel Fanged Pursuit 17-Year-Old Kentucky Bourbon – Orphan Barrel has introduced Fanged Pursuit, a 17-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon that is the first non-chill filtered bourbon in the collection. It is crafted from a carefully selected mashbill of 68-74% corn, 18-22% rye, and 8-10% malted barley, according to the brand. (Distillery undisclosed) (92 proof; $200 for a 750ml bottle) Read the full press release here.

• Woodford Reserve Releases 2025 Kentucky Derby Bottle – Woodford Reserve has released its 2025 Kentucky Derby Bottle, featuring artwork by Cuban-born artist Humberto Lahera, known for his photorealistic paintings that blend classical techniques with contemporary influences. Lahera currently resides in Louisville, Kentucky. (90.4 proof; $49.99 for a 1-liter bottle) Read the full press release here.

• World Whiskey Society Launches Doc Holliday 10-Year-Old Special Edition Collector’s Case Straight Bourbon Whiskey – The World Whiskey Society has unveiled the Doc Holliday 10-Year-Old Special Edition, a straight bourbon whiskey presented in a collector’s case. “The eye-catching set features a dual-purpose 2-in-1 cork gun stopper and display revolver, seamlessly blending whiskey refinement with historical allure.” No additional details about the bourbon are provided. (Proof not specified; $249 for a 750ml bottle) Read the full press release here.

• Rebel Bourbon Launches Kyle Busch 108 Single Barrel Bourbon – Rebel Bourbon has introduced its Kyle Busch 108 Single Barrel Bourbon, in honor of Rebel’s sponsoring of Richard Childress Racing. It’s Rebel’s wheated bourbon aged for four years, and each barrel was selected by Kyle with the guidance of Master Distiller John Rempe. (108 proof; $39.99 for a 750ml bottle) Read the full press release here.

• Penelope Bourbon Releases Highly Anticipated Rio – Penelope Bourbon has announced the latest release of Rio, part of their “Cooper Series” of cask finished bourbons. Rio uses a mash bill of 74% corn, 7% rye, 16% wheat and 3% malted barley and is double finished using Brazilian Amburana barrels and honey barrels. Previous Rio releases have been in very high demand, so it may take some work to find a bottle at or near its retail price. (98 proof; $79.99 for a 750ml bottle) Read the full press release here.

• Remus Bourbon Unveils Master Distiller Experimental Series – Remus Bourbon, produced by Ross & Squibb Distillery (MGP) has launched its new Master Distiller Experimental Series. This new series was “born from a happy accident when a barrel experiment from 2015 yielded some particularly interesting whiskey.” “The new series will allow Master Distiller Ian Stirsman to experiment with grains, recipes, and maturation techniques, creating high-quality bourbons with rare character and refined flavor profiles.”  The first release was aged for nine years in lightly charred, heavily toasted Seguin Moreau barrels made with staves seasoned for 24 months. (107 proof; $79.99 for a 750ml bottle) Read the full press release here.
