But First, Here’s What’s New on BourbonObsessed.com!

Well, it turns out that I was out of town for a good portion of these past two weeks, so we don’t have quite as much new content on the website as usual. However, we do have a few reviews of some exciting new whiskeys!

  • O.H. Ingram River Aged recently released this year’s Flagship Bourbon. Flagship Bourbon is their limited annual release featuring some of their best barrels, selected by Founder Hank Ingram and Master Blender Scott Beyer. This year’s release is blended from only 6 barrels, so it is in pretty limited supply. O.H. Ingram is unique in that their whiskey is aged on floating barges in the Mississippi River, referred to by the brand as “Mellowed on the Mississippi”. Full Review.
  • Little Book The Infinite: Edition 1 is the first line extension for Freddie Noe’s Little Book brand. It’s a blend of whiskeys laid down by three of Beam’s most recent master distillers: 6th Generation Master Distiller Booker Noe, 7th Generation Master Distiller Fred Noe, and 8th Generation Master Distiller Freddie Noe. It features bourbons aged 8 to 20 years resulting in a nice mix of mature and more mature bourbon flavors. Full Review.
  • Beam is on a roll with line extensions these days. Booker’s Bourbon The Reserves is a new, annual, limited-release series spun off from the popular Booker’s Bourbon. The first release in the series is a blend of eight production dates aged in eight different warehouses, with bourbons aged 8 years 2 months to 14 years 4 months. It has similar character to Booker’s Bourbon, but the flavors are a bit more full and rich. Full Review.
  • Angel’s Envy has also added a new permanent addition to their line. Angel’s Envy Triple Oak is a blend of bourbons finished in three types of barrels sourced globally: Hungarian Oak from Hungary, Chinkapin (also known as Chinquapin) Oak from Kentucky, and French Oak from France. And, just like their Bottled In Bond Bourbon released earlier this year, its not finished using a wine or spirits cask, just good old oak! Full Review.

Now, on to the news!

There’s quite a bit of bourbon related news this week including another new distillery tasting room coming to Louisville, a limited edition Angostura Bitters, an auction to benefit recent hurricane victims, and a bunch of new bourbon (and other whiskey) releases.

Bourbon and Distiller News:
  • Green River Distilling Co., of Owensboro, KY, is opening a new tasting room and bar on Whiskey Row in Downtown Louisville. It is set to open in mid-2025. The space will feature a bar, bottle shop, and a speakeasy, offering a blend of history, entertainment, and experiences. It will be right down the street from their sister distillery’s (Bardstown Bourbon Company) Louisville location. I’m looking forward to checking it out! Press Release.
  • To celebrate their 200 year Anniversary, Angostura released their 200-Year Anniversary Limited-Edition bitters. The bitters feature a unique blend of globally influenced herbs and spices—many reminiscent of those used by the brand’s founder, Dr. Johann Siegert, in his 1824 apothecary—paired with Angostura aged rum.  The bitters are available in limited quantities (120,000 bottles globally) at select national and regional liquor chains. No price is given. Press Release.
  • If you hurry, you can still enter Sazerac’s online auction to aid those impacted by the recent hurricanes. All proceeds from the online auction will go toward the American Red Cross to aid in their Hurricanes Milton and Helene disaster relief efforts. There are some fantastic bottles available, but you’ll have to hurry because the auction ends at 10AM EST today (November 1, 2024). Full details, auction link and and press release.

New Releases:

  • Baker’s High-Rye Bourbon – This new recipe boasts double the standard rye content found in Baker’s Bourbon. However, similar to all current Baker’s releases, the High-Rye is bottled as a single barrel at 107 proof. Prior to bottling, the barrels are aged for a minimum of 7 years. $74.99. Press Release.
  • Rabbit Hole Boxergrail Founder’s Collection 8-Year Old Rye – This latest limited release from Rabbit Hole is made from a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley. It is aged 8 Years and then bottled at cask strength. Only 1,200 bottles of Boxergrail Founder’s Collection Rye are available for purchase at Rabbit Hole Distillery and in select markets nationwide. 103.8 proof. $299.99. Press Release.
  • Buffalo Trace Antique Collection 2024 – This year’s portfolio includes all five Buffalo Trace Antique Collection (BTAC) staples: Eagle Rare 17-Year-Old Bourbon, George T. Stagg Bourbon, Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey, Sazerac 18-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey, and William Larue Weller Bourbon. I’m a big fan of these whiskeys and hope to try them this year, and maybe, if the stars align, get lucky enough in one of the store lotteries to buy a bottle.🤞 The Press Release has the full details and MSRP of each expression.
  • Bourbon de Luxe – Turner Wathen and Jordan Morris – business partners since 2016 and the powerhouse behind the award-winning Rolling Fork Rum brand have revived this historic brand once owned by the Wathen Family. The first bottling is an 8-year-old bourbon sourced from an undisclosed Bardstown distillery. 528 bottles. 119 proof. $64.99. www.thebourbondeluxe.com
  • Woodford Reserve released their 2024 Holiday Bottle. This annual limited edition bottle features golden bows on the label, embodying the gift-giving spirit for celebrations worldwide. 90.4 proof. $52.99 (the bottle photo label says the bottle contains 1L, but the product page says 700ml, which I assume is an error).
  • Lythgoe Catherine’s Legacy – An 8-year-old, small-batch blend of 4-grain Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey crafted by Lythgoe’s Master Blender, Steffani Scheurich. This limited-edition release honors Catherine Carpenter, who, according to the brand, in 1818, became the first person to document a whiskey recipe in the United States. I believe she is the first person to document a sour mash recipe, but as far as any whiskey recipe, I’ll have to confirm that another time. Lythgoe Bourbon is a brand dedicated to honoring the women who helped shape the whiskey industry. 100 proof. $89.99. LythgoeBourbon.com
  • Finally, for all the Canadian Whisky fans out there, we have Crown Royal Reserve Aged 12 Years Blended Canadian Whisky – This latest release from Crown is said to have richer depth, bolder flavor and delicious complexity. 80 proof. $49.99. Press Release.
