We have quite a few new whiskey and bourbon reviews, and some updated distillery write-ups. Here’s a sampling: (Click the whiskey or distillery name to read all about it)

  • Knob Creek 10 Year Rye – Knob Creek Rye was first introduced in 2012. The portfolio has expanded over the years, with this latest addition now boasting a 10-year age statement. It’s a delicious and complex well aged rye. Read my full review.
  • Jim Beam Black Aged 7 Years – The new Jim Beam Black is a rich, smooth bourbon that has recently regained its age statement. It offers a flavorful experience that’s not overly complex, making it a great choice for those new to bourbon. Read my full review.
  • Jeptha Creed 6 Year Old Wheated Bourbon – Jeptha Creed has released their first wheated bourbon! Six years old and made with malted wheat as well as their trademark Bloody Butcher corn, it has a unique flavor profile. Read my full review.
  • Limestone Farms Bourbon Review – Morgan Family Collection – It is in the blending facility in Georgetown, Kentucky, where industry veteran Barry Downing crafts Limestone Farms’ complex bourbons. Their first line of bourbons, the Morgan Family Collection, includes the Select Batch, Small Batch, and Private Stock, all of which are full-bodied, bold bourbons with layered flavors and a mature character. Read my full review.
  • Big Machine Distillery Tour – Big Machine Distillery (formerly Tenn South Distillery) has seen significant transformations, including a rebranding and a change in leadership. The distillery offers a distinctive experience with its innovative hybrid still for making whiskey and moonshine, and a state-of-the-art vodka still, complete with a proprietary platinum filtration system. Read our full tour review.

National Bourbon Week Is Taking Place Now in Bardstown!

Bardstown, KY, the “Bourbon Capital of the World” has proclaimed the week of June 11 to be the first annual National Bourbon Week. This week does encompass National Bourbon Day (June 14), which had already been established, but is not to be confused with Bourbon Heritage Month, which is September.

The week is now well underway, and there’s quite a bit going on. The events started on Tuesday night with the sold out 2024 Bardstown Collection Release Party. Attendees had the opportunity to mingle with friends, visit distillery booths, chat with master distillers and brand ambassadors, have some great food, and best of all, sample all of this year’s 7 Bardstown Collection Bourbons! While many of the events and releases have already occurred, there are still a few events yet to go, including the free 21st annual Bourbon City Street Concert on Saturday. Details about National Bourbon week and the related events, including the schedule and ticketing information, can be found at this link: https://visitbardstown.com/national-bourbon-week/

Russell’s Reserve 15 Year Old Bourbon Announced

Wild Turkey has announced the latest bourbon in the Russell’s Reserve line: Russell’s Reserve 15 Year Old! It will begin arriving in stores in the U.S. and Asia starting July 1, 2024. There have now been a few releases of Russell’s Reserve Aged 13 Years, but this new release is a couple of years older. I suspect this bourbon will see a fairly high demand, so it might take some work to get a bottle. 117.2 Proof. $250. Read the full press release here.

Crown Royal Expands Horizons With New Single Malt Canadian Whisky Expression

Crown Royal launched its first single malt whisky, Crown Royal Single Malt Canadian Whisky. Distilled in Canada’s cool climate, the whisky is said to have aromas of creamy vanilla and fruity banana, which give way to flavors of caramel, apple and baking spices, finishing with lingering hints of spice and warm cinnamon. A cool-looking ice sculpture was unveiled on June 7 in lower Manhattan to celebrate the whisky’s release. Available nationwide. 90 Proof. $54.99. Read the full press release here.

Just a few more new releases:

  • Penelope Bourbon has announced Batch 8 of their Penelope Rosé Cask Finish Bourbon. They start with their Four Grain Bourbon, and then finish it in rosé wine casks. It is bottled at 94 proof with a mash bill of 74% corn, 16% wheat, 7% rye and 3% malted barley. Available now. $49.99.
  • Angel’s Envy has announced something totally unique – for them – an unfinished Bottled In Bond Bourbon! It will only be sold at the distillery, and releases Friday June 14 at the gift shop. This is very atypical offering, because not only is it Bottled in Bond, it is Cask Strength! There’s a lot to talk about with this bourbon, and I’ll do just that in my review, which is coming soon! 100 proof. $54.99 / 375ml.
  • Green River has released Full Proof Bourbon, which will be a permanent addition to its line. It’s a blend of five-to-seven-year-old barrels, featuring a high rye mash bill and bottled at 117.3, but proof will vary batch to batch. I’ve got a full review on the way on this one, too! I’m a big fan of Green River, and I really appreciate their reasonable price points and high quality. $49.99. You can read the press release here.
