The Specifics – Copper & Cask 20 Year Hazmat Cigar Blend Whiskey Review
Small Batch 10 starts with 15 barrels of Blended Canadian whiskey that were aged for more than 19 years in Alberta. Barrels were hand-selected by our Barrel Master, blended in micro-batches and then re-barreled into a collection of Armagnac and Tawny Port casks. After several months finishing, the whiskey was married and allowed to harmonize before bottling. It is bottled at 145.2 proof and was aged a total of 20 years. 1,800 bottles were released.
Tasting Notes – Copper & Cask 20 Year Hazmat Cigar Blend Whiskey Review
Let’s taste it:
🛏 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn
👉🏻Nose: Mildly sweet, butterscotch, rich milk chocolate, caramel, hint of orange peel, subtle armagnac notes; slight fruitiness; alcohol vapor is noticeable
👉🏻Taste: Syrupy light brown sugar, dark caramel, dark chocolate, mild oak, orange peel
👉🏻Finish: White pepper, tart orange peel, toffee, dry oak, mild char; long; deep warmth
I am really enjoying the nose of Copper & Cask 20 Year Hazmat Cigar Blend Whiskey, but I am taking great care when I sniff it. That’s because all of those 145.2 proof points are definitely launching an assault on my nostrils. Nonetheless, there are plenty of flavors; butterscotch and tan caramel are the most noticeable up front, followed by rich milk chocolate, later on. The nose is mildly sweet, but there are also hints of tart orange peels. Armagnac flavors, which I assume are contributing a slight fruitiness, are in the background.
The taste has a syrupy light brown sugar sweetness, with a darker caramel, cocoa, mild oak and tart orange peel, with the beginnings of rising white pepper spice. However, the finish rapidly becomes much more spicy, with an abundance of white pepper which lingers for a very long time. With it, is mild tart orange, toffee, and later on, dry wood and hints of barrel char. The finish is quite long with a deep warmth and quite a bit of lingering heat on my tongue.
Conclusion
This whiskey really does have fantastic rich flavors, and I am enjoying it quite a bit. In fact, I could sniff (carefully) the nose all day! However, there is no “sugar coating” the high proof, and the alcohol makes its presence known in full force. If you are a person who is not afraid of the whiskey in your glass being almost three quarters pure alcohol, then I think this is one you will really enjoy. Have you tried Copper & Cask Hazmat Cigar Blend 20 Year Whiskey? What did you think? Cheers!🥃
