What is the ecozy Vaultico One Plus 2.4″ Clear Ice Ball Maker?

The ecozy Vaultico One Plus 2.4″ Clear Ice Ball Maker represents the brand’s push toward a smaller, space-saving countertop footprint. It is billed as their most compact clear ice maker yet, and compared with the prior versions that I have reviewed, it certainly is. Instead of the multi-ball production cycles of ecozy’s larger models, the Vaultico One produces one high-clarity ice-sphere at a time, and is meant for the home cocktail enthusiast.

Designed specifically to fit easily on a standard home bar or a cramped kitchen counter, it utilizes CrystalFlux technology to push out ultra-clear ice with minimal air bubbles, according to the brand. Given its size, this unit relies on a small 0.21-gallon internal water reservoir to keep things portable and freestanding.

At the time of this review, the unit is priced at $239.97 (regularly $279.99) on Amazon.

Important Usage Tips (From the Manufacturer)

  • Water Quality Matters: For pristine clarity, the manufacturer recommends using filtered or purified water with a Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) value below 200. High TDS water will result in cloudy ice full of trapped air bubbles. (A TDS meter is included, but should not be needed if distilled water is used.)
  • Cleaning Safeguards: Always ensure the removable ice basket is completely installed before initiating the built-in self-cleaning mode.
  • Ice Storage Reality: While the double-layer insulation slows down melting inside the tray, it is not a freezer. For the best results, spheres should be moved to a standard freezer shortly after production to preserve their shape and clarity.

First Use and Setup – ecozy Vaultico One Plus 2.4″ Clear Ice Ball Maker Review

Getting the Vaultico One Plus up and running is an incredibly straightforward process. Before firing up the machine for the first time, all removable parts must be thoroughly washed with warm, lightly soapy water. The interior and exterior housing should then be wiped down completely using warm water and a soft cloth.

Like its larger siblings, this unit features a built-in self-cleaning mode. The manufacturer dictates that this cycle be run before the very first use, or anytime the ice maker sits completely idle for more than 48 hours. The cleaning process takes roughly six minutes to finish. Once done, the water is easily emptied via the integrated drain valve situated along the front bottom surface of the unit.

Making Ice

To kick off an active ice cycle, you simply open the top cover and fill the upper reservoir compartment with water to a point just below the maximum fill line. To achieve the best possible clarity, I opted to fill the reservoir with pure distilled water.

Operating the machine is a single-button affair. Pressing the start button illuminates a snowflake icon on the interface, signaling that the freezing cycle has officially begun. In terms of operating volume, the ecozy Vaultico One Plus is remarkably well-behaved. It runs with a gentle hum reminiscent of a quiet air conditioner running on low; it is entirely non-disruptive, and you can comfortably carry on a conversation right next to it.

The machine lists an official cycle time of 40 minutes. During my testing, checking the machine at the 38-minute mark revealed it had already shifted into its ice harvesting phase, successfully ejecting the very first ice ball right at the 40-minute mark.

The unit immediately dives into its subsequent cycles in under a minute. After a few minutes of operation, the front display converts over to a live countdown timer. By the second cycle, the machine builds up operational momentum—the countdown adjusted down to roughly 33 minutes, with the ice ball completely harvesting and dropping by the 36-minute mark. The third and fourth cycles followed a similar accelerated pace, holding steady at roughly 34 minutes for freezing and 37 minutes for full ejection.

Remarkably, the seemingly small 0.21-gallon water reservoir is more than ample in size. The machine successfully marched through eight full consecutive cycles over a span of several hours without triggering a single low-water warning light, leaving a minimal amount of the original water volume in the tank. A low-water warning was finally triggered during the setup for the ninth cycle, at which point the machine paused automatically and waited to be refilled.

Even after running the machine continuously for over six hours—which likely exceeds normal daily usage for a personal clear ice maker—the unit ran flawlessly, and the air blowing out of the exhaust vents remained only slightly warm the entire time.

Ice Clarity and Aesthetics

Overall, the Vaultico One Plus delivers on its promise of clear, high-quality ice. Checking the freshly harvested ice spheres with a caliper confirmed they measure right at the advertised 2.4 inches in diameter.

The spheres uniformly display internal fissures throughout the center, though the ice surrounding them remains perfectly clear. The initial ice ball turned out fairly round with a very small end hole and a thin, raised rim running right along its midline, although subsequent balls did not have this rim. However, as the first ice ball will have substantial melting (see below) its main purpose is to provide cooling for the ice basket for the subsequently produced balls.

Due to the mechanical release mechanism, each ball features a small center pit or bulbous cavity extending inward from the release hole. The size of this pit can vary; while most stayed at a standard, small baseline size, occasional outliers can occur, and this pit can enlarge during early melting cycles. For the vast majority of the batches—especially cycles five through eight—the ice spheres remained highly consistent, boasting tiny baseline holes, minimal surface texturing, and solid structural integrity. Ice balls from even later cycles were even more consistent due to the now well-cooled machine and ice basket.

Ice Basket Cooling and Melting Behavior

Because the Vaultico One Plus features a highly compact interior, managing your ice production requires a bit of active strategy. The internal ice holder will need to be physically emptied after seven ice balls are successfully created, as the tray runs out of physical clearance. By the seventh cycle, the newly harvested ice ball required a quick manual shake to drop cleanly into place so the front door could be opened.

Based on my testing, this unit relies entirely on its double-layer insulation rather than active freezer elements to protect the harvested ice. Because of this, maintaining a cool temperature becomes increasingly efficient as ice balls fill the reservoir. The interior holding area remains cool, but it is not a true freezer environment. Consequently, melting behavior varies noticeably between the early and later batches.

The very first ice ball experiences the most significant amount of shrinkage and deformation because it drops into an empty basket that hasn’t been chilled down yet. As melting occurs over time, the center holes and dimples on the earlier ice balls widen and collect water (which can simply be dumped out before moving them to long-term storage; however, if left in, it might refreeze and fill the dimple.) The later balls suffer far less melting and retain their baseline shape and size beautifully, cooling themselves passively from the ice spheres already resting around them. What did happen with the melting process, however, was a beneficial side effect: as the outer layers slowly melted, the internal fissures actually partially “healed” and became somewhat less evident.

Ice Performance

To see how these ice spheres perform under pressure, I subjected a freshly harvested ice ball to a real-world melting test. I poured a 1.5-ounce neat pour of room-temperature Stagg Jr. (clocking in at an ample 132.5 proof) directly over the ice ball in a standard rocks glass. Because the bourbon started at room temperature, it triggered some expected initial surface melting as the high-proof spirit rapidly chilled down.

Here is how the ice ball evolved at 5-minute intervals:

  • 5 Minutes: The ice ball immediately proved its cooling efficiency. Melting was most prominent on the completely submerged bottom half of the sphere, causing the ice to begin to take on a distinct “mushroom” shape. The top portion of the ball projecting cleanly above the liquid remained perfectly rounded, while the center hole grew mildly larger.
  • 10 Minutes: The ice continued to melt predominantly below the fluid line, further carving out the mushroom geometry. This asymmetrical melting pattern caused the ice ball to list slightly to one side in the glass, exposing the shape underneath. The drink was well-cooled, and the bourbon’s flavors remained well-preserved without feeling watered down.
  • 15 Minutes: The overall melting pace slowed down, though the underlying “stem” of the mushroom shape continued to thin out, causing the ball to lean heavily against the side of the glass. The temperature of the pour remained appropriately chilled. Dilution was becoming noticeable on the palate, though the bourbon remained pleasant to sip.
  • 20 Minutes: A substantial amount of ice still remained intact, though it was noticeably smaller than its starting size. The center hole had expanded significantly, stretching to more than double its original diameter. The top configuration retained a rounded shape while the submerged base grew increasingly irregular. While the drink was noticeably diluted at this stage, the high starting proof kept it perfectly drinkable. Many people would have finished their drink by this point.
  • 25 Minutes: The ice ball had reduced to roughly half of its original volume. The submerged segments were more irregular, while the exposed top remained somewhat round. Given that most drinkers would have more than likely finished a 1.5-ounce pour long before the 25-minute mark, I’d say that the ice performed quite well for normal use.

Final Thoughts – ecozy Vaultico One Plus 2.4″ Clear Ice Ball Maker Review

The ecozy Vaultico One Plus 2.4″ Clear Ice Ball Maker is a very capable, highly focused machine built for a specific type of enthusiast. If you have limited real estate on your bar counter and want a quiet, hassle-free appliance capable of churning out clear ice spheres on demand, it fills that role beautifully.

Because it relies entirely on passive double-layer insulation rather than an active freezer unit, operation does require a bit of attention. You will want to remove the ice spheres fairly frequently from the basket and tuck them away into your kitchen freezer to halt any ongoing melting and deformation. As a “pro-tip”, I would recommend sacrificing the first and second ice balls and leaving them in the ice basket to provide cooling for future balls.

The delay start feature allows one to set the timer and have ice production begin in time to have the desired amount of ice balls in the basket when one arrives home from their daily activities. By utilizing the timer, ice does not have to sit in the basket for a prolonged time, so that melting will be minimized. Always allow time for one or two extra ice balls to be made, as those first balls will have noticeable melting.

The ice balls perform well in real-life situations. They are the advertised 2.4 inches in diameter and round. While they are clear overall, they do contain multiple internal fissures, as well as the small end hole and associated small cavity. Personally, I feel they look fine in a drink, however if you absolutely need a flawless ice ball, you may have to look elsewhere.

Given its rapid cycle times, ease of use, minimal operating noise, and solid ice performance in a glass of neat bourbon, the Vaultico One Plus makes an excellent, space-conscious addition to any serious home whiskey setup.
