“The Better Brown”

A Celebrity Brand

Four Walls Whiskey is a celebrity Irish American whiskey brand founded by Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day. Apparently, I don’t spend enough time watching television, because I didn’t recognize their names or their show, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and had to Google them. It logically follows that the name of the brand, Four Walls Whiskey, is a tribute to the Four Walls The Gang calls home – the bar. Additionally, Four Walls has one up on most of the other celebrity whiskey brands, as it is a very appropriate extension of their show, which centers around an Irish bar that the group owns.

Four Walls Whiskey Debuted In 2022

The Four Walls Whiskey brand debuted in 2022 with a high end limited release, a 15 year old Irish Whiskey commemorating the 15th season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Also released at that time was Four Walls Bartender’s Blend, an Irish Whiskey blended with a Pennsylvania straight rye. The latest release, and the subject of this review, is Four Walls Irish American Whiskey. It is, according to the brand’s website, a blend of “grain and malt Irish Whiskeys from Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk Co. Louth in Ireland which is then blended with American Rye Whiskey from Cedar Ridge Distillery in Iowa.” The percentages of each whiskey are not provided, but if I were to guess, I would assume that the Irish Whiskeys predominate.

Tasting Notes – Four Walls Irish American Whiskey Review

Let’s taste it:

🛏 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn

👉🏻Nose: Sweet pears and honeydew melon; tart lemon peel; light rye spices & honey; light alcohol
👉🏻Taste: Fairly sweet, with light honey and pears; light dry oak
👉🏻Finish: Mild white pepper spice, tannins, dry oak & barrel char; lingering remnants of honey and pears; mild warmth

The nose has sweet pears and honeydew melon, which are most dominant, with tart lemon peel, light honey and mild rye spices in the background. The alcohol vapor is mild, as would be expected from its 80 proof.

The taste of Four Walls Irish American Whiskey is fairly sweet, with light honey, pears and melon, and a subtle contrast from dry oak. The sweet fruit flavors continue into the finish, but are mere shadows of their former selves. Mild dry oak, light white pepper spice, light barrel char and tannins prevail, but are not overpowering. The subtle flavors linger for a while, but ultimately it is a bit of tannins, barrel char and dry oak that remain on my tongue. Four Walls leaves me with a mild deep warmth, without a noticeable burn.

Irish Whiskey Dominates The Flavor Profile

Overall, it is the Irish Whiskey that dominates Four Walls Irish American Whiskey’s flavor profile. The rye spices are noticeable in the nose, but are in the background. Interestingly, the mild dry oak and barrel char appearing later on, and lingering in the finish, come as a bit of a surprise, given the otherwise “bright” overtones of this whiskey, but still blend in quite nicely.

Four Walls Irish American Whiskey is very easy to drink. It will likely find more favor with Irish Whiskey fans than with rye fans, as it is certainly the Irish Whiskey components that dominate. Four Walls would be perfect for those who prefer a lighter lower proof, fruit forward, sweeter pour. It would also be quite pleasant on a hot summer day. In addition, as suiting its bar-themed name, Four Walls would be a very good “session” whiskey, to enjoy for hours while wiling away some time in a bar with friends. Have you tried Four Walls Irish American Whiskey? What did you think? Cheers!🥃
