Tasting Notes – Green River Army 250th Anniversary Bourbon Review
🛏 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn glass
👉🏻Nose:
Ed: Moderately sweet with brown sugar, rich caramel, pears and perhaps Juicy Fruit gum; rye spices – mainly cloves; hint of dark stone fruit; dry cedar once acclimated & tart orange after a few sips; alcohol vapor light for the proof
Dean: Fruity with notes of pear, green apple and cherry. Some notes of oak, tea, butterscotch and faint leather developed as time passed. Light ethanol vapor for the proof.
👉🏻Taste:
Ed: Fairly sweet; cloves, caramel, simple syrup, sweet pears, Juicy Fruit gum
Dean: Cherry cola, grapes, raisins with hints of apple; cinnamon spice mid-palate with a bit of lime at the end.
👉🏻Finish:
Ed: Fairly dry, dry wood, mild barrel char, white pepper spice; long with lingering flavors, spice and lingering sweetness; pleasant warmth
Dean: Medium finish with oak and dryness up front, transitioning to a mild spice at the end
Summary – Green River Army 250th Anniversary Bourbon Review
Ed: The flavors in this pour evolve with each sip. The nose starts out fairly sweet, with rich flavors, pears, hints of juicy fruit gum and dark stone fruits, but later on cedar becomes quite noticeable, and the nose less rich. Later still, tart orange peel becomes evident. The taste is a nice mix of sweetness and fruit at first, becoming spicier and more dry in the finish.
Dean: I was pleased with the complexity and variety of fruit notes that complemented the traditional oak and vanilla undertones. It drank well for the proof and I wish some of the tastes would have stayed into the finish longer.
Conclusion:
If you’re a bourbon drinker – which you likely are since you are reading this review – this is an excellent way to honor the Army’s 250th Anniversary.
