Hardin’s Creek Jacob’s Well Bourbon Review

Jacob's Well Bourbon is one of the 2 inaugural releases of the James B. Beam Distilling Company's new Hardin's Creek brand. Hardin's Creek Jacob's Well Bourbon is the polar opposite of their other inaugural release, Colonel James B. Beam Bourbon. Whereas Colonel James B. Beam Bourbon is a 2 year old bourbon meant to be reminiscent of the bourbon produced by Col. Jim Beam shortly after Prohibition ended, Jacob's Well Bourbon is at the other end of the spectrum. It is a near equal blend of 16 year old bourbon made from the traditional Jim Beam bourbon mash bill and a 15 year old high rye bourbon.

What is Jacob’s Well?

Jacob’s Well is named after the well that Johannes Jacob Beam, the family’s forefather, built back in the late 1700s. The water, which came from a nearby creek, Hardin’s Creek, was the power source for the mill used to grind the corn, as well as the water source for the bourbon itself.

Tasting Notes – Hardin’s Creek Jacob’s Well Bourbon

Let’s taste it:

🛌 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn

👉Nose: Brown sugar, maple, sweet stone fruits, oak, caramel, leather, vanilla, raspberry; hint of milk chocolate; moderate alcohol; deep and full flavors, giving away the age
👉Taste: Caramel, brown sugar, oak, black tea
👉Finish: Caramel, vanilla and oak linger, with a bit of black pepper towards the end. Dark stone fruits like plums, linger. Leather returns. Moderate burn. Very long finish that becomes more dry and woody further on

Frootbat - Making hard to find liquor easy to buy

Summary – Hardin’s Creek Jacob’s Well Bourbon Review

Hardin’s Creek Jacob’s Well Bourbon has all of the flavors that I would expect from a well-aged (no pun intended) bourbon. Rich full flavors, noticeable oak and a long, lingering finish. In addition, there are ample added stone fruits to balance the flavors.

At a MSRP of $149.99, the price is in line with, if not cheaper than, other similarly aged bourbons being released these days. To me, it is by far a better deal than its much younger sibling, Hardin’s Creek Colonel James B. Beam Bourbon, with an MSRP of $79.99. I purchased this bourbon through Jim Beam’s Bottled and Boxed program, so I didn’t have to hunt it down. However, if you enjoy bourbons with more mature flavors, this one may be worth the search.

Have you tried Jim Beam’s new Hardin’s Creek Jacob’s Well Bourbon? What did you think? Cheers!🥃
