Aged Series
Jack Daniel’s Aged Series currently features 10, 12 and 14 year old Tennessee Whiskeys. Jack Daniel’s 10 Year Old Tennessee Whiskey Batch 1 was released in 2022. This is the 4th batch. Even more mature whiskeys are planned for future releases.
According to the distillery: “These Tennessee Whiskey barrels have been aging in the Buzzard’s Roost of our barrelhouse, and methodically relocated to the lower floors of different barrel houses to extend the aging process for the last 10 summers. The extreme weather variation at different locations in the barrel houses along with longevity in our handmade oak barrels creates an intense, unique character of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey.”
The Details
Like all Jack Daniel’s whiskeys, Jack Daniel’s 10 Year Old Tennessee Whiskey is distilled in Lynchburg, Tennessee and is mellowed drop by drop through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal. It is made from a mash bill of 80% corn, 8% rye & 12% malted barley.
Tasting Notes – Jack Daniel’s 10 Year Old Tennessee Whiskey Review
Let’s taste it:
🛏 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn
👉🏻Nose: Tart orange, hints of sweet bananas, sweet cherry candy; brown sugar, vanilla; mild tart orange citrus; mild oak; mild leather; alcohol vapor appropriate for the proof
👉🏻Taste: Mildly sweet with brown sugar simple syrup, tan caramel and vanilla; mild leather, barrel char, dry oak and tannins
👉🏻Finish: Building capsaicin spice; lingering and fading fruit, vanilla and caramel; increasingly dry; mild dry oak and barrel char at the end; pleasant warmth
The flavors in the nose start out fairly full, sweet and fruit forward, with sweet cherry candy and hints of sweet bananas. After a little time, tart orange citrus, brown sugar, tan caramel and light vanilla, as well as mild oak and leather, become increasingly noticeable, and the sweet fruits diminish. The alcohol vapor is appropriate for the proof.
The fruits, caramel and vanilla, as well as the brown sugar sweetness, have decreased in intensity in the taste, but they are all still there. There are mild leather, barrel char and tannins, too. Those flavors become increasingly evident and continue into the finish. The fairly long finish has a building capsaicin spice which creeps back into my throat. Mild tart orange lingers on. The mouthfeel becomes increasingly dry, with dry oak and barrel char at the end. A mild smoky char lingers for quite a while and ultimately, I am left with a pleasant warmth.
Summary – Jack Daniel’s 10 Year Old Tennessee Whiskey Review
Jack Daniel’s 10 year old is a very enjoyable whiskey. Compared with the 12 and 14 year old versions, it has more fruit overall, with a surprisingly sweet nose for its age. However, over the course of the sip, there is a nice transition of flavors into the fairly spicy and drier finish, with a pleasant touch of smoky barrel char. Although the flavors are more full and complex, this 10 year most closely resembles the flavor profile of Old No 7 than the more mature variants. If you are a Jack Daniel’s fan, you will almost certainly enjoy this whiskey. Have you had it? What did you think?e Cheers!🥃
