The Aged Series
Jack Daniel’s Aged Series currently features 10, 12 and 14 year old Tennessee Whiskeys. Jack Daniel’s 12 Year Old Tennessee Whiskey Batch 1 was released in 2023. This is the 3rd batch. Even more mature whiskeys are planned for future releases.
According to the distillery: “The Jack Daniel Distillery is one of the most complete whiskey distilleries in the world, and we’re able to craft premium whiskeys in a way that honors our heritage while highlighting the modern-day world-class whiskey-making. To honor our distillery’s past, our Master Distiller, Chris Fletcher handcrafted these aged-stated whiskeys and evolved our whiskey process to achieve a rare flavor profile.”
The Details
Like all Jack Daniel’s whiskeys, Jack Daniel’s 12 Year Old Tennessee Whiskey is distilled in Lynchburg, Tennessee and is mellowed drop by drop through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal. It is made from a mash bill of 80% corn, 8% rye & 12% malted barley.
Tasting Notes – Jack Daniel’s 12 Year Old Tennessee Whiskey Review
Let’s taste it:
🛏 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn
👉🏻Nose: Mildly sweet; rich confectionary flavors, with brown sugar, toffee, milk chocolate; tart orange peel, dark plums; mild oak; alcohol vapor is appropriate for the proof
👉🏻Taste: Brown sugar, milk chocolate, dark caramel, dark cherries, oak, mild tannins
👉🏻Finish: Building capsaicin spice; oak; mild lingering dry wood and char later on; mild tannins; long; moderate burn
The nose of Jack Daniel’s 12 Year Old Tennessee Whiskey starts of mildly sweet, but quite rich, with confectionary flavors of brown sugar, toffee and milk chocolate. Later on, oak becomes noticeable, but is not overpowering. There is a touch of barrel char, too. In addition, there are fruits, mainly tart orange peel and dark plums. The alcohol vapor is appropriate for the proof.
The taste has some brown sugar sweetness as well as dark caramel, milk chocolate and dark cherries. However, the sweetness fairly rapidly is exchanged for more evident oak, tannins and increasing capsaicin spice. In the finish, the spice progressively grows, and remains centrally on my tongue. The mouthfeel becomes increasingly dry, with dry wood and mild barrel char later on, and somewhat diminished, but still quite noticeable, spice. At the very end, I am left with dry wood, mild barrel char, mild tannins, and spice, which all linger for a very long time. Deep down is a pleasant warmth.
Summary – Jack Daniel’s 12 Year Old Tennessee Whiskey Review
Jack Daniels 12 Year is a very enjoyable whiskey. The flavors of Old No. 7 have definitely matured, resulting in rich confectionary flavors in the nose, as well as fairly pronounced spice and barrel notes in the finish. That all adds up to a pretty much perfect combination and progression of flavors for me. Have you tried Jack Daniel’s 12 Year-Old Tennessee Whiskey? What did you think? Cheers!🥃
