Tasting Notes – Keeper’s Heart Irish + American 110 Proof Whiskey Review

Let’s taste it:

🛏 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn

👉🏻Nose: Mildly sweet and spicy, with sweet apples & pears, light sweet caramel, hint of tart orange citrus, mild honey sweetness, anise & allspice; alcohol vapor noticeable and appropriate for the proof
👉🏻Taste: Honey, sweet pears, light caramel, cloves, white pepper spice; fairly sweet
👉🏻Finish: Tart orange citrus; peaches, moderate white pepper spice, mild barrel char later on; baking spices; increasingly dry, moderately long

The nose of Keeper’s Heart Irish + American 110 Proof Whiskey has sweet fruits, like apples and pears, but also some contrasting tart orange citrus, with anise and allspice, too. Mild light honey adds some additional sweetness as well. Overall, the nose is an intriguing mix of baking spices and fruit. The alcohol vapor is noticeable, but appropriate for the proof.

At first, the taste is moderately sweet. However, before long, spice enters the mix, and gradually becomes dominant. When the liquid first hits my taste buds, there is a mix of light honey, sweet pears, and light caramel. But soon, cloves, and white pepper spice join in. The white pepper then progressively increases throughout the sip, lingering centrally in my tongue. In addition, tart orange citrus waltzes back in again, with its new partner, peaches. Later on, in the long finish, mild barrel char appears, and the mouthfeel becomes increasingly dry. In the end, I am left with lingering mild barrel char, baking spices, tart orange citrus, and white pepper, with an overall dryness, but yet, also a pleasant warmth.

Bottle & Glencairn Glass - Keeper's Heart Irish + American 110 Proof Whiskey Review
It’s A Rye! No, It’s An Irish Whiskey!

Keeper’s Heart Irish + American 110 Proof Whiskey is both a rye and an Irish whiskey, a surprisingly unique combination of the two. Interestingly, the individual flavors of the two whiskeys stand out independently, yet nonetheless, go quite well together. They are each distinctly present in this whiskey, seemingly in a constant battle for dominance. That’s not surprising, given just how different, yet pronounced, the flavors of Irish Whiskey and MGP’s 95/5 Rye, are.

Conclusion

The contrasting flavors of these two whiskeys, made quite intense due to the relatively high proof, result in a flavor combination that I have never before had. This whiskey should appeal to 95/5 rye fans, with the ample fruit and sweetness from the Irish Whiskey component adding a different twist. However, Irish Whiskey fans may be a bit taken aback by the ample spice contributed by the rye. Nonetheless, they may enjoy it, too. Have you tried Keeper’s Heart Irish + American 110 Proof Whiskey? What did you think? Cheers!🥃
