The new Milam & Greene Very Small Batch Bourbon is a blend of Kentucky and Tennessee bourbons finished with French Oak staves

Milam & Greene Whiskey Adds A New Bourbon To Their Line

Milam & Greene Whiskey just added a new bourbon to their line up: Very Small Batch Bourbon, Batch 1. It is the first of a series which will be released twice a year. This bourbon is a blend of Milam & Greene’s distillate which was distilled at Bardstown Bourbon company in Kentucky and a Tennessee bourbon from an unnamed source. The Kentucky bourbon utilizes a mash bill of 70% corn, 22% malted rye, and 8% malted barley. It was aged in Kentucky for just under 4 years and then brought to Blanco, Texas, where Milam & Greene Whiskey is based. The Tennessee bourbon has a mash bill of 80% corn, 10% rye, and 10% malted barley.

Master Blender Heather Greene blended 75 barrels of these bourbons together. The blend consisted of 20% of the Kentucky bourbon and 80% of the Tennessee bourbon. Then, they finished the bourbon using house charred staves made from barrels which previously held Milam & Greene’s tawny port barrel finished rye. After finishing, the whiskey was bottled at 108 proof. A total of 1500 9 liter cases were produced (18,000 750ml bottles).

Tasting Notes – Milam & Greene Very Small Batch Bourbon Review

Let’s taste it:

🛌 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn

👉Nose: Sugar cookies at first; Sweet dark stone fruits like cherries; a dab of sweet boysenberry pancake syrup; brown sugar; burnt caramel kettle corn; cedar; and light minerals; full and rich; noticeable alcohol
👉Taste: Caramel, brown sugar, oak, tart but yet sweet cherries, light minerals
👉Finish: The flavors as well as some of the sweetness continue; Moderate capsaicin spice develops in the finish with a tangy cherry punch fruitiness remaining as well; there’s some dry oak and char which continue into very long finish with a moderate burn

The nose of Milam & Greene Very Small Batch Bourbon starts out quite sweet, with the fruit and brown sugar dominating. As time goes on, the other flavors become more noticeable. There are some minerals in the back and also in the taste, which I assume are coming from the Tennessee component. The taste brings caramel and brown sugar, and some oak starts to become more evident, but the fruit remains. In the finish, the fruit takes on a more tangy note. The finish has moderate spice and heat, perfectly readying me for my next sip. Some sugar cookie appears intermittently, seemingly, at will.

Conclusion

This is a very enjoyable bourbon, and in spite of its relatively high proof, it is easy to drink. However, the long finish does insist that I take my time between sips to fully appreciate the lingering flavors before I go back for more. If a Texas twist on Kentucky and Tennessee bourbons is something that piques your interest, then give Milam & Greene Very Small Batch Bourbon a try! Cheers!🥃
