Please enjoy this week’s New Bourbon (and other whiskeys) Releases News! ‘Tis the season for releases, and boy, do we have a lot of them! Therefore, we won’t wax poetic about each one. Well, maybe for a few of them, but not most. Most will be just a few short quick facts. Also, there won’t be a newsletter next week because of the Kentucky Bourbon Festival. Will we see you there?

But First, Here’s What’s New on BourbonObsessed.com!

We’re really only going to talk about one new thing on BourbonObsessed.com this week, because it’s about the Kentucky Bourbon Festival, and that’s now just a few short days away. As a long time KBF attendee, I wrote a very comprehensive guide to the festival. I hope it will be useful to both newbies and seasoned festival-goers alike. You can read it right here: Kentucky Bourbon Festival Survival Guide 2025. If there are any topics I missed, or anything else that you think should be in there, please let me know.

Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2025 Announced

Old Forester’s 2025 Birthday Bourbon marks the brand’s 25th vintage-dated release, aged 12 years and bottled at 92 proof. In a rare departure from tradition, this batch was produced using a sweet mash process rather than setback (sour mash). Drawn from 210 barrels filled on April 5, 2013, and selected by Chris Morris and Caleb Trigo, this release was available through a national online sweepstakes on OldForester.com August 18–21, 2025, with winners required to purchase in Louisville between September 4 and December 20. Each bottle carries a suggested retail price of $199.99, with limited availability nationwide at select retailers. Read the press release here.

Pursuit Spirits Releases Old Anvil: The Third Expression in the Mellwood Legacy Collection

Pursuit Spirits has unveiled Old Anvil, the third release in their Mellwood Legacy Collection. Originally acquired in 2019 at 5 years old, and for a number of years considered a failed experiment, these rare 70/21/9 mashbill barrels eventually matured into a rich, nuanced bourbon when they reached 11 years of age. Bottled at cask strength (119.4 proof), Old Anvil is a distillery-exclusive release available only at Pursuit Spirits’ new Whiskey Row location beginning August 28. Each 375mL bottle is priced at $99.99, with limited daily allocations. However, booking their Mellwood Past & Present experience guarantees a purchase while supplies last. This bourbon has been previously available to their P.club members, but is now available to the general public. pursuitspirits.com

Chicken Cock Whiskey Announces Miller’s Reserve American Whiskey

Chicken Cock Whiskey has unveiled Miller’s Reserve American Whiskey, a limited-edition blend of four whiskeys sourced from Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, and West Virginia, all aged 8–10 years. Bottled at 115 proof (57.5% ABV), this release includes a blend of 10-year Double Oak Kentucky Whiskey, 8-year High Rye Bourbon from Indiana, 8-year Wheated Bourbon from West Virginia, and 10-year Wheated Bourbon from Ohio. Inspired by founder James A. Miller’s 1860 loss of 475 barrels in the sinking of the A.O. Tyler steamer, Miller’s Reserve honors the brand’s history while showcasing modern craftsmanship. Each bottle (SRP $99.99) features collector-style packaging and will debut at the Kentucky Bourbon Festival and have limited online availability. chickencockwhiskey.com

(I had the opportunity to try this whiskey yesterday, and it was excellent! Stay tuned for my review!)

Kings County Distillery Releases Flagship Straight Empire Rye

Kings County Distillery has announced a new flagship offering: Straight Empire Rye, now a core part of the portfolio after years of limited allocations. Made with a mashbill of 80% Danko rye (grown in New York) and 20% English malted barley, the whiskey is double pot distilled and aged a minimum of three years in charred oak barrels. Bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV), it represents one of the few commercially available grain-to-glass rye whiskeys made in the Northeast, carrying the Empire Rye insignia to mark provenance and quality. Priced at $69, it launched August 13 at the distillery’s tasting room, the Gatehouses, and online at kingscountydistillery.com, with rollout to New York stores and distribution later in September. kingscountydistillery.com

Baker’s 13-Year-Old Single Barrel Bourbon Returns For 2025

Baker’s 13-Year-Old Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is back for 2025 as a limited edition release. A step up from the standard 7-year-old Baker’s, this limited edition bottling of special 13-year single barrel liquid explores how time and location in the warehouse drives distinction from barrel to barrel. Bottled at 107 proof, each single barrel develops its own character. The suggested retail price is $149.99 for a 750ml bottle. beamdistilling.com

(Baker’s 13 has been one of my favorite releases the last couple of years. I had the opportunity to try this latest release the other day, and it is again excellent, and one to try if you enjoy mature bourbon flavors! It has noticeable oak, but remains quite balanced.)

Jackson Purchase Distillery Releases Private Label Bourbon

Jackson Purchase Distillery opened a little more than four years ago in Hickman, Kentucky. I had thought they were only going to do contract distilling, but it turns out that is not correct. They are about to release their first bourbon bottled under their own label. It is made from a mash bill of 70% corn, 20% rye and 10% malted barley. It is aged 4 years and is bottled at 117.8 proof. The SRP is $59.95, but according to the Courier Journal, it will sell for $75 at the Kentucky Bourbon Festival. They say that the bourbon tastes older than its 4 years due to the effects of the hot and humid southwestern Kentucky climate. We’ll find out for ourselves soon enough, when we taste it next week at the KBF. (source: Courier Journal)

Cathead Distillery – Old Soul Estate Collection #3

Cathead Distillery has released the third expression in its Old Soul Estate Collection, a 7-year-old Straight Bourbon Whiskey made entirely in Mississippi, from grain to glass. Distilled from a mash bill of 65% corn, 28% wheat, and 7% sorghum, the bourbon was pot distilled and aged in American oak barrels with char levels 2, 3, and 4. It entered the barrel at 106 proof and matured for seven years under Mississippi’s intense climate, resulting in a whiskey that is earthy and richly nuanced. Bottled at cask strength 111.5 proof (55.75% ABV), this release is priced at $75 and highlights Mississippi-grown, distilled, and aged craftsmanship. catheaddistillery.com

(OK – the sorghum in the mash bill has really piqued my interest! I need to try this one!)
