Amrûlé became available exclusively at Rabbit Hole Distillery beginning November 25. Visit rabbitholedistillery.com for details.

Introducing Ampersand: A New Line of Small Batch Spirits by Chip Tate

Ampersand marks the debut release from Chip Tate since joining Foley Family Wines & Spirits as Master Distiller for Innovation in January 2024. The collection features three small batch American whiskey blends that lean heavily into Tate’s deep knowledge of barrels and their impact on aging, finishing, and flavor profiles. All three expressions are available in most states and online where permitted at ampersandspirits.com. The trio includes:

  • Ampersand Malus – A 92-proof blend of 51% 8-year-old American rye whiskey and 49% 8-year-old Calvados from Normandy, made in traditional copper stills and aged in French oak. 6,000 bottles. SRP $59.

Wilderness Trail Distillery Debuts 6-Year-Old Private Barrel Offerings

Wilderness Trail Distillery has introduced a new lineup of 6-year-old single-barrel offerings: a Wheated Bourbon, a High-Rye Bourbon, and a Rye Whiskey. Each is cask strength, non-chill filtered, and produced using the distillery’s sweet mash process, proprietary yeast strains, and Level 4 alligator char barrels. The Wheated Bourbon ($70) uses a mash bill of 64% corn, 24% wheat, and 12% malted barley and a barrel entry proof of 110; the High-Rye Bourbon ($70) uses 64% corn, 24% rye, and 12% malted barley and a barrel entry proof of 110; and the Rye Whiskey ($80) features 56% rye, 33% corn, and 11% malted barley and a barrel entry proof of 105. Proofs will vary. All three expressions will be available nationwide beginning January 2026, with the Wheated Bourbon open for pre-order now. Read the full press release here.

(Editor’s note: Since these whiskey are named “Private Barrel”, you may think that they are all individually selected by stores or groups. That is what I thought, since that is how the term is usually used. So, I asked for clarification. It turns out that these single barrels are selected by the distillery, and distributed directly to retailers to be placed on shelves. Therefore, in spite of the name, they are not individually picked by each store.)

Archer Eland Rye Whiskey Brand Launch

According to the Brand: “Archer Eland Rye Whiskey launches its flagship rye celebrating Ohio grain, craft whiskey and its founder and blender Wendy Peveich. Wendy has created a brand that honors her mother’s spirit and curated a love letter to the rye enthusiast through her unique blends. Archer Eland was born from passion; the desire to celebrate and show various facets of rye grain through Wendy’s lens and the Ohio agricultural terrain.”

Archer Eland is made from a mash bill of 95% unmalted rye and 5% malted rye in collaboration with Middle West Spirits in Columbus, Ohio. However, the grains used are completely different than Middle West’s well-known Dark Pumpernickel rye. The brand will debut with four straight rye expressions: Solstice (the flagship rye, 4 years, 104 proof, $65), Aurora (4 years, 110 proof, $70), Cashmere (7 years, 126 proof, $85, may be a limited release), and Suede (7 years, 126 proof, $85, limited time only). The two permanent expressions, Solstice and Aurora, are a combination of 4- and 7-year-old barrels designed to “illustrate layers, complexity and a well rounded pour.”

Archer Eland Rye is available now for pre-order via the Middle West Spirits store on Speakeasy and in select Ohio locations, with expanded availability coming soon. The brand launch is on Saturday December 6th from 4:00-6:00 pm at Service Bar in the Middle West Spirits distillery in Columbus, OH. See their socials for details.

(Editor’s note: I have had the opportunity to try these ryes, and they are quite delicious! My reviews are coming soon!)

Ole Smoky Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Ole Smoky launches Ole Smoky Tennessee Straight Bourbon, a four-year-old whiskey now available across the U.S. After a successful distillery debut in 2023, this expression marks the brand’s expansion into premium straight whiskey. Priced at $24.99, this full-bodied bourbon delivers a “smooth, sippable profile” true to Tennessee tradition. This launch marks a significant milestone for Ole Smoky as the company expands its whiskey offerings beyond its flavored spirits, which include more than 25 authentic moonshine and 17 whiskey varieties. (Editor’s note: The bourbon is aged 4 years and bottled at 80 proof, according to the brand website, and the price is slightly higher – $25.99.) Read the full press release here.

Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series #16 – Tennessee Rye Finished in Table Syrup Barrels

Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series #16 is a limited barrel proof Tennessee Rye Whiskey finished in table syrup barrels. The whiskey begins with Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Rye (70% rye, 18% corn, and 12% malted barley) matured in new charred oak before undergoing a finishing period in barrels that previously held a Southern-style table syrup. It is bottled at 111.4 proof (55.7% ABV) in 375ml bottles and will be available exclusively in Tennessee and at the White Rabbit Bottle Shop beginning December 6. The suggested retail price is $44.75 plus tax. jackdaniels.com

(Editor’s note: In spite of living in Kentucky, I did not know what Southern Table Syrup was. So, according to ChatGPT: “Southern table syrup” usually refers to a classic Southern-style pancake syrup made from cane sugar, corn syrup, and/or molasses, though some traditional versions may also include sorghum. It’s known for its dark, rich sweetness and is a common breakfast syrup throughout the South.)

Cathead Distillery Introduces Tintype #3 ‘Kenny Brown’

Cathead Distillery has introduced Tintype #3 ‘Kenny Brown’, the newest release in its blues-inspired Tintype Series of limited-edition Old Soul Bourbons. This 2025 edition debuts alongside refreshed releases of Tintype #1 (Captain Luke) — aged 7+ years and bottled at 121.8 proof — and Tintype #2 (Hermon Hitson) — aged 9+ years and bottled at 110.1 proof.

Tintype #3 is aged 11 years and bottled uncut and unfiltered at 103.5 proof. Featuring a mash bill of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley, it represents a new recipe for the series. Honoring Hill Country blues icon Kenny Brown, this release “showcases the effects of Mississippi’s climate on long-term maturation, resulting in a comforting bourbon layered with banana-nut-bread richness, buttery baked bread, toasted pecans, and warm baking spices.”

The full 2025 Tintype Series is now rolling out, with Tintype #3 priced at $134.99 on Seelbach’s and additional availability through Cellar.com and select stores in AL, FL, GA, LA, MI, MS, NC, SC, TN, and TX. catheaddistillery.com

Copperworks Kilt Lifter Whiskey

Copperworks Distilling Company has released Copperworks Kilt Lifter Whiskey, a collaboration with Pike Brewing that “honor[s] a legacy of innovation, friendship, and craft that spans more than three decades.” The whiskey is distilled from an unhopped version of Pike’s Kilt Lifter scotch-style ale — a recipe Copperworks Co-Founder Jason Parker helped develop during his time as Pike’s first brewer. The base wash was brewed at Pike’s gravity-fed brewhouse and distilled at Copperworks, then matured more than five years in new American oak casks.

This release consists of 1,800 bottles (700ml), bottled at 50% ABV (100 proof) and priced at $59.99. For more information, visit copperworksdistilling.com.

Dark Arts Whiskey House Ripple Rye Vol. 2

Dark Arts Whiskey House has released Ripple Rye Vol. 2, a straight rye whiskey originally distilled in Indiana from a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley and aged 7.5 years in American oak. The rye then undergoes a rare dual finishing process—resting in barrels that once held rich maple syrup, then layered with toasted Amburana oak staves. This combination “weaves sweetness and spice into an intricate tapestry of flavor.” “Maple rounds the edges, amburana adds its exotic warm cinnamon, and the rye’s bold grain character shines through”, according to the brand. Ripple Rye Vol. 2 is bottled at 110.74 proof, priced at $109, and is available at the Dark Arts Whiskey House and online. For more information and to purchase, visit darkartswhiskeyhouse.com.
