  • PaPaw’s Ridge Kentucky Straight Bourbon Review by Craig & Cynthia – PaPaw’s Ridge Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is built around the Nethery family’s deep farming roots in Shelbyville, Kentucky and inspired by a special place on Roy “PaPaw” Nethery’s family farmland. Distilled at Rut ‘N Strut Distillery using locally grown yellow corn and aged for at least four years, this 86-proof bourbon focuses on simplicity, approachability, and easy sipping rather than bold intensity. Does this light and easygoing bourbon deliver enough character to stand out? Read Craig & Cynthia’s full review to find out!
  • Kentucke County Bourbon Aged 6 Years Review by Craig & Cynthia – 15 STARS built their reputation on older, premium-priced bourbon blends, but Kentucke County Straight Bourbon Whiskey – Aged 6 Years changes things up considerably. At just $37.99, it is their most affordable bourbon release yet, while still carrying the age statement and blending approach that helped establish the brand. Released to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and the birthplace of bourbon, does this lower-priced bottle still deliver the quality we have come to expect from 15 STARS? Read Craig & Cynthia’s full review to find out!
  • Kentucke County 12 Year Old American Whiskey Review – Kentucke County 12 Year Old American Whiskey by 15 STARS combines mature oak with classic bourbon flavors and a surprisingly approachable price. Aged for 12 years using both second-use and new charred oak, does it strike the right balance between age and drinkability? Read my Kentucke County 12 Year Old American Whiskey Review to find out!
  • Cedar Ridge Pete & Sherri Married 2nd Anniversary Review – The Pete & Sherri Married series has become one of Cedar Ridge Distillery’s most recognized American Single Malt releases, blending peated and non-peated single malts finished in multiple sherry casks. This latest release, Pete & Sherri Married – 2nd Anniversary Edition, builds on the earlier expressions with Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso, and Amontillado cask influence layered onto a 6 to 9-year-old cask strength American Single Malt. Does the extensive sherry finishing add complexity, or does it overpower the whiskey beneath it? Read my full review to find out!

New Bourbon Releases

Bardstown Bourbon Company Distillery Reserve Mars Single Malt Japanese Blend

Bardstown Bourbon Company has announced the release of Distillery Reserve Mars Single Malt Japanese Blend, a limited release developed in collaboration with Japan’s Mars distilleries. Rather than a traditional finishing approach, Japanese single malt whisky from Mars Komagatake and Tsunuki distilleries was introduced into barrels containing mature bourbon, where the spirits were aged together for 12 months. The Japanese components were crafted from 100% malted barley and aged in Umeshu and Sakura barrels before being combined with Kentucky bourbons aged 10 and 16 years.

Bardstown Bourbon Company Mars Component Whiskey Breakdown

  • 69% Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey — 10 Years Old — Mash Bill: 74% Corn, 18% Rye, 8% Malted Barley
  • 8% Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey — 16 Years Old — Mash Bill: 75% Corn, 13% Rye, 12% Malted Barley
  • 20% Komagatake Japanese Single Malt Whisky — 5 Years Old — 100% Malted Barley – aged in Umeshu (plum liqueur) barrels
  • 3% Tsunuki Japanese Single Malt Whisky — 5 Years Old — 100% Malted Barley – aged in rare Sakura (cherry wood) barrels

Distillery Reserve Mars Single Malt Japanese Blend is bottled at 109.8 proof and has a suggested retail price of $99.99 for a 375 mL bottle. The whiskey is available exclusively at Bardstown Bourbon Company’s distillery gift shop and Louisville Tasting Room. Read the full press release here.

Michter’s 10 Year Rye

Michter’s has announced the June 2026 release of their 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye. According to Michter’s, the whiskey is made in a Kentucky style with more corn and malted barley in its mash bill than many American ryes. Michter’s Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson noted that the whiskey’s cooperage and aging are key to developing its balance of baking spice, citrus and floral characteristics.

Michter’s 10 Year Rye is bottled at 92.8 proof and carries a suggested retail price of $210. Read the full press release here.

Editor’s Note: Michter’s never divulges mash bills and rarely shares other specifics like the age range of the barrels used, so details are fairly sparse on this one. Nonetheless, the Michter’s 10 Year Rye is always excellent, and I assume this release will be no different.

Barrell Bourbon Batch 038

Barrell Craft Spirits has unveiled Barrell Bourbon Batch 038, a limited-release blend of straight bourbon whiskeys featuring a special red, white and blue label commemorating the United States’ 250th anniversary. The blend combines bourbons distilled in four states, including 12-year-old Kentucky bourbon, 12- and 15-year-old Tennessee bourbons, 9- and 10-year-old Indiana bourbons and 8-year-old Maryland bourbon.

The blend has a derived mash bill of 79% corn, 17% rye and 4% malted barley.

Barrell Bourbon Batch 038 is bottled at 116.96 proof and has a suggested retail price of $84.99 per 750 mL bottle. The release is available online through Barrell Craft Spirits and at retailers nationwide. Read the full press release here.

Green River Distillery Select Toasted Double Oak Bourbon

Green River Distilling Co. has announced the inaugural release in their new Distillery Select series, Toasted Double Oak Bourbon. The whiskey was aged eight years in Green River’s clay tile rickhouses before spending an additional six months in a secondary new American oak barrel with a light char and medium toast.

Thirteen barrels were selected from Warehouse B for the release. Distillery Select Toasted Double Oak Bourbon is bottled at 115.1 proof.

Green River Distillery Select Toasted Double Oak Bourbon is priced at $49.99 and packaged in a 375 mL bottle. Frey Ranch Distillery has announced the release of Frey Ranch 10-Year-Old Bourbon, Batch #1, the oldest age-stated whiskey released by the Nevada distillery and the oldest whiskey ever distilled and aged in the Nevada High Desert. The bourbon features the same mash bill as Frey Ranch’s Four Grain Bourbon: 66.6% non-GMO corn, 11.4% Canadian winter rye, 10% soft winter wheat and 12% two-row malted barley. The batch is comprised of barrels from four warehouse locations:

  • 26% from the fifth floor of Warehouse 3, a seven-story warehouse
  • 23% from the third floor of Warehouse L, a seven-story warehouse

Editor’s Note: The selling price on the Wheel Horse website is typically a little higher than the stated SRP.

Wolfe & Wilson Straight Rye Whiskey

Stoll & Wolfe Distillery has announced the release of Wolfe & Wilson Straight Rye Whiskey, a collaboration between Erik Wolfe of Stoll & Wolfe and Alan Bishop. The whiskey was inspired by a historical distilling recipe documented by Frederick Heinrich Gelwicks in the late 1700s to early 1800s and was produced using a variety of historical distilling techniques.

The mash bill consists of 26% rye, 26% rye malt, 26% wheat and 22% oats. Heritage rye was sourced from the Kline family farm, while the wheat and oats were sourced from another Pennsylvania family farm. Fermentation occurred in open-top cypress tanks using a combination of a wild yeast strain from Indiana introduced by Bishop and yeast strains captured from historic Pennsylvania distillery sites by Stoll. The whiskey was distilled on Stoll & Wolfe’s custom column still with a thumper/doubler, where dried apples and raisins suspended in cheesecloth sacks were used during distillation as a nod to colonial-era techniques.

The spirit came off the still at a proof in the low 120s and entered new American oak barrels with a #3 char at 105 proof. Batch 1 was aged for 2 years in a colonial-era tobacco barn on the Kline family farm before being bottled at 100 proof. Available at a price point of $80, only 1,000 750 ml bottles of Batch 1 will be available starting July 4th through Stoll & Wolfe’s tasting room in Lititz, Pennsylvania, and online in the contiguous United States. stollandwolfe.com

Four Roses Anthology Series Chapter One: Origin

Four Roses Distillery has announced the launch of Anthology, a new annual ultra-premium series of rare and limited releases exploring different chapters in the brand’s 138-year history. The inaugural release, Chapter One: Origin, is a 21-year-old bourbon inspired by the story behind the founding of Four Roses and is the oldest release in the brand’s history.

Chapter One: Origin was crafted from Four Roses’ OBSF recipe and bottled at up to 124.9 proof.

Four Roses Anthology Series Chapter One: Origin will be available exclusively at the Four Roses Visitor Center beginning July 10 and at a special Four Roses pop-up experience at the brand’s original headquarters on Louisville’s historic Whiskey Row on July 11. The event will offer visitors an up-close look at the story, craftsmanship and legacy behind Four Roses through experiences inspired by the inaugural Anthology release. Approximately 1,200 bottles will be released with a suggested retail price of $500. fourrosesbourbon.com

Editor’s Note: I’m having a little trouble understanding how the Four Roses 20 year-old Visitor Center release was around $200, but this 21 year-old is $500. But maybe that’s just me?

Old Forester President’s Choice Bourbon and Rye

Old Forester has announced the return of President’s Choice, its annual single barrel release. For the second consecutive year, the release will be available in both President’s Choice Bourbon and President’s Choice Rye expressions. The release coincides with both National Bourbon Day and the eighth anniversary of the opening of Old Forester Distillery on Louisville’s Whiskey Row.

Each barrel is aged between 7 and 9 years and bottled at barrel strength, with proofs ranging from 110 to 125 proof. President’s Choice traces its roots to private single barrels offered in 1964 by former Old Forester president George Garvin Brown II.

President’s Choice Bourbon and President’s Choice Rye will be released in limited quantities beginning at 10:00 a.m. ET on June 13. Bottles will be available for in-person purchase at Old Forester Distillery and online through the brand’s store for shipment to eligible states (D.C., Kentucky, Nebraska, New Hampshire and North Dakota). Both expressions carry a suggested retail price of $225. oldforester.com

Editor’s Note: To be honest, I am including this one because the bottle is gorgeous and unique. However, for the price, I would expect more details about the bourbon itself.

Potter Jane Big Vat Liar

Potter Jane Distilling Company has announced the release of Big Vat Liar, a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey that uses an uncommon vatting process designed to build additional complexity through blending, oxidation, and oak influence. The project began with a 6-year-old high-rye Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Then, rather than using traditional finishing barrels, Potter Jane partnered with Independent Stave Company to create a series of custom 500-liter and 600-liter oak vats for blending and maturation. The vats included:

  • American Oak – 500 liters, 24-month seasoned oak, proprietary toast, Char #1
  • French Oak – 500 liters, tight grain, 24-month seasoned oak, heavy toast, light char
  • Hybrid Oak – American oak body with French oak heads, 500 liters, 24-month seasoned oak, medium-plus toast, Char #1

The whiskey underwent a seven-month vatting and blending process before bottling.

Big Vat Liar is a cask strength Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey bottled between 105 and 120 proof. The bourbon is just shy of 7 years old, carries a suggested retail price of $49.99, and will be released during National Bourbon Week. The initial release is limited to Kentucky, with future expansion planned. potterjane.com

Tumblin’ Dice 13 Year Rye Whiskey

Proof & Wood Ventures has announced the release of Tumblin’ Dice 13 Year Rye Whiskey, a limited-release straight rye whiskey bottled at barrel proof after 13 years of maturation. The release extends the Tumblin’ Dice lineup beyond its previous 12-year offerings and continues the brand’s focus on older rye whiskey releases.

Tumblin’ Dice 13 Year Rye is made from a 95% rye mash bill and bottled at barrel proof, with proof varying by batch. The release joins Tumblin’ Dice’s portfolio that includes high rye bourbon, rye whiskey, and a widely recognized single barrel program ranging from 6 to 12 years.

As with previous Tumblin’ Dice releases, the numbers on the dice on the label reflect the age of the whiskey. The 13-year release will feature two label designs: one showing dice displaying 6, 6 and 1, and another featuring a 13-sided die inspired by tabletop gaming.

Tumblin’ Dice 13 Year Rye Whiskey will be available in limited quantities at select retailers. Pricing was not provided. proofandwood.com
