Background
According to the brand, “Northcross Irish Whiskey is crafted and matured in the seaside town of Dundalk, in County Louth, Ireland. There, in the northeast corner of the country, Northcross is made using the purest waters from the nearby Cooley Mountains.”
The brand further notes that “Our Triple Wood expression is made from a blend of whiskies, distilled in copper pot stills and matured in ex-bourbon barrels, Oloroso sherry casks and virgin American oak.” The whiskey is crafted from a blend of double-distilled and triple-distilled whiskies and is bottled at 86 proof. It is also non-chill filtered.
According to the original press release announcing the whiskey from February 2023, Northcross Triple Wood Irish Whiskey is “crafted and matured at the Great Northern Distillery in Ireland” (press release).

Tasting Notes – Northcross Triple Wood Irish Whiskey Review
Let’s taste it:
🛏 Rested: 15 minutes in a Glencairn
👉🏻 Nose: Moderately sweet; tangerines, honey, sweet floral notes; dark plums and dark berries in the background; mild dry oak; alcohol vapor appropriate for the proof
👉🏻 Taste: Fairly dry; light apples and pears, mild simple syrup sweetness, mild oak; relatively light-bodied, yet lightly syrupy as well; dark berries later on
👉🏻 Finish: Reasonably short, mild lingering sweetness and dark berries; drier later on, mild black pepper spice, grapefruit and dry oak linger
Summary
Overall, Northcross Triple Wood Irish Whiskey has pleasant flavors on the nose, although they are a bit on the lighter side. Likewise, the palate has a fairly light mouthfeel and is surprisingly dry. Yet there is still some lingering sweetness along with lighter sweet fruit. The finish is on the shorter side. There is mild lingering sweetness, but it becomes drier later on with some spice and tart citrus as well.
There is also a darker berry note that comes and goes throughout the pour, adding a layered character that is somewhat surprising given the overall lighter nature of the whiskey.
A Lighter-Bodied Irish Whiskey with Subtle Fruit and Dry Spice
This is an easy-drinking, lighter-bodied whiskey that still has a bit of complexity to it. While it is not as sweet or fruit-forward as many of the Irish whiskeys I have tried, it still makes for an enjoyable pour. If you prefer a less fruit-forward Irish whiskey with a lighter body, this one may be worth a try, particularly at this price point. Have you tried Northcross Triple Wood Irish Whiskey? What did you think? Cheers!🥃
