O.H. Ingram Brand Background

O.H. Ingram (Brown Water Spirits LLC) was founded in 2015. Although their headquarters are located in Nashville, TN, O.H. Ingram whiskey is aged a few hours away in barrelhouses on barges in the Mississippi River. The company first started with one rickhouse barge, anchored in Wickliffe, Ballard County, Kentucky. They have recently relocated a short distance downriver to Columbus, Kentucky, and have expanded their fleet to 2 barges, with room for up to 15+ in their new location.

A variety of factors, such as the rise and fall of the river with the daily tides, the river’s constant motion, high humidity and temperature fluctuations result in unique effects on the maturing whiskey. The company refers to this river aging as “Mellowed on the Mississippi”.

Tasting Notes – O.H. Ingram Flagship Bourbon Review (2023)

Let’s taste it:

🛏 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn

👉🏻Nose: Sweet red delicious apples, pears & light sweet caramel; tart orange peel and baking spices become more noticeable later on; moderate alcohol
👉🏻Taste: Apple and pear with sweet caramel are again up front, with baking spices and tart orange citrus appearing later on; mild dry oak, light char and tannins are apparent after a few seconds, with some capsaicin spice…
👉🏻Finish: …which continues to grow into the finish, with the spice becoming quite noticeable and lingering for a long time; relatively mild burn, but there’s a long deep warmth inside my chest

At first, the nose of O.H. Ingram Flagship Bourbon is quite reminiscent of a caramel apple. With time, tart orange peel is added in, with some baking spices; however they are not the clove heavy baking spices often seen with a rye bourbon. They are more of an apple pie kind of baking spices. Similar flavors continue into the taste, with the sweet caramel, apples and pears. However, as in the nose, some sharper flavors like tart orange peel, dry oak, light barrel char and tannins appear later on. The finish continues with this drier trend, with quite noticeable capsaicin spice, that lingers for a while on my tongue. Later on in the finish, I am left with a nice warming feeling in my chest.
