It’s much lighter than I expected

From The Penelope Website:

Our Toasted Series is a testament to the power of serendipity. When we began to explore toasted finishes, we weren’t expecting each barrel to be so different — so we decided to embrace this variety of chars and toasts that make every bottle in our Toasted Series truly one-of-a-kind.

After full maturation in charred new American oak barrels, Penelope Bourbon is finished in a new, freshly toasted barrel. While it can be hard to predict the flavor profile of each bottle in our Toasted Series, the deep notes of vanilla imbued by the toasting process add another dimension to our signature flavor profile.  Whether you’re into a Heavy Toast or Medium, our Toasted Series truly offers something for everyone.

Tasting Notes – Penelope Toasted Bourbon Review

 Let’s taste it:

🛏 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn glass

👉🏻Nose: Hot cherry peppers, brown sugar, cinnamon
👉🏻Taste: Light oak, vanilla, sugar
👉🏻Finish:  Light finish with lingering brown sugar and pepper

Frootbat - Making hard to find liquor easy to buy

When I saw a Char Level 5 on this four-year-aged product, I figured the flavors would be more pronounced. Instead, this is light bourbon that, while pleasant, doesn’t have the depth of flavor of the Penelope Architect or Barrel Proof. I was surprised by the hot, cherry pepper flavor on the nose—I love those peppers on sandwiches—and I found it to be the bourbon’s best quality.

Frootbat - Making hard to find liquor easy to buy

Conclusion – Penelope Toasted Bourbon Review

The Penelope Toasted Bourbon is good, especially for those who prefer a light, easy drink. Competition in this price point will be a challenge as there are other, more economical bourbons that I find more appealing.
