Pinhook Bourbon Heist High Proof Review
Please enjoy our Pinhook Bourbon Heist High Proof review! Pinhook Bourbon Heist High Proof is the latest bourbon release from Pinhook. As many of you know, Pinhook releases a new "Crop" of bourbons and ryes each year. Each bears the name of a real life thoroughbred identified by McMahon & Hill / Bourbon Lane Stables and each horse has either bourbon or rye in its name. Every year, both the bourbon and rye are named after a new horse, and the bourbon, and sometimes the rye, come in both high proof and lower proof options. Also released each year are bourbons and ryes which are part of the Vertical Series; these whiskeys will be released yearly as they age from 4-12 years. They are all named either Bourbon War or Tiz Rye Time and the latest releases for both are their 5 year olds.

This latest Pinhook Bourbon release was distilled at Castle & Key Distillery and was aged “more than 3 years”. It is made from a mash bill of 75% corn, 15% rye and 10% malted barley, and is it bottled at cask strength.

Tasting Notes
Let’s taste it:
🛌 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn
👉Nose: brown sugar, cantaloupe, apple juice, clove, caramel; strong alcohol
👉Taste: rich brown sugar, caramel, quite sweet
👉Finish: the syrupy sweetness continues into the finish with oak and char eventually coming forward; long finish with a moderate warming burn
It’s actually a little difficult trying to nose this one because it does sort of burn your nose hairs off if you take too deep a breath or get your nose too far in the glass. Interestingly, it doesn’t drink nearly as hot, although it definitely has a bit of a burn at the end. In the middle it is just packed with a brown sugary and caramel sweetness that’s tough not to love!
Summary
I think this Bourbon Heist High Proof has unseated Bohemian Bourbon High Proof as my favorite Pinhook bourbon. They both were distilled at Castle and Key, and are both close in age, although Bohemian was aged more than 34 months and this one is a little bit its senior. Have you tried Pinhook Bourbon? Which is your favorite? I hope you enjoyed this Pinhook Bourbon Heist High Proof review! Cheers!🥃
