The Latest Addition to Redemption’s Ancients Series

Redemption 18 Year Old Bourbon is the latest addition to the brand’s “Ancients Series”. It joins Redemption 36 Year Old Bourbon and 18 Year Old Rye. With only 2,400 bottles available, this truly is a rare release.

Background Information

According to the brand: “Born in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Redemption 18-Year-Old Bourbon was once a hidden treasure—rediscovered and meticulously nurtured under the expert guidance of Master Blender Alan Kennedy. Bourbons of this age are notoriously difficult to perfect, often losing balance or acquiring harsh characteristics over time. Through Kennedy’s discerning palate and masterful blending techniques, this rare release reached peak maturity with remarkable depth and complexity to create a once-in-a-generation find.”

Tasting Notes – Redemption 18 Year Old Bourbon Review

Let’s taste it:

🛏 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn

👉🏻Nose: Sweet dry oak, brown sugar, toffee, dark cherries, raspberry jam, hot cinnamon; hint of tart orange citrus; alcohol vapor appropriate for the proof
👉🏻Taste: Dry oak, caramel; white pepper spice later on
👉🏻Finish: White pepper, dark cherries, mild dry oak, mild barrel char later on; dry; tannins; hints of leather; long and lingering; pleasant warmth

Redemption 18 Year Old Bourbon has the flavors I would expect in a well aged bourbon. While there is plenty of oak, it is appropriately balanced with the other mature flavors.

The nose is oak forward, but there are plenty of sweet and rich flavors, as well. Dark cherries, raspberry jam and tart orange citrus make for a pleasant combination of fruits. Brown sugar and subtle toffee add the richer flavors, with a bit of hot cinnamon thrown in for good measure. The alcohol vapor is appropriate for the proof.

In the taste, the dry oak is again at the forefront, and is joined by a medium dark caramel as well as brown sugar. Dark cherries also reappear. In addition, some white pepper spice comes in a bit later and carries through the finish. A bit to my surprise, the oak becomes a bit more subtle in the finish, although the mouthfeel becomes more dry with more noticeable tannins. Mild smoky barrel char and hints of leather continue on throughout the very long finish. In the end, I am left with a pleasant warmth and lingering mild smoky char, leather and white pepper spice, that seem to go on forever.

Summary

I’m really enjoying Redemption 18 Year Old Bourbon. It offers mature, well-integrated flavors that reflect its age, while remaining balanced. Although dry oak is a noticeable note throughout, it never overpowers the other flavors–instead, it complements them beautifully. This is a bourbon to sip slowly and savor. If you appreciate a well-aged, complex whiskey with plenty of depth, Redemption 18 Year Old Bourbon is definitely worth seeking out. Have you tried it? What did you think? Cheers! 🥃
