A Collaboration Between Remington and Log Still Distillery

Remington Reserve Open Season Bourbon is a collaboration between Log Still Distillery and Remington. “Remington is growing their category with licensing partners; we’re always looking for quality partners and new categories for the brand,” says Kaylene Christian, Shooting Accessories and Licensing Product Manager. “Located in Gethsemane, Kentucky—within the heart of Bourbon country—Log Still Distillery is a family-owned operation rooted in bourbon-making tradition. We are excited and happy to be working closely with them on this new product launch.”

According to the press releases, it is a proprietary blend of Kentucky and Tennessee bourbons, bottled at 86 proof in Gethsemane, Kentucky. Mash bills were not disclosed.

One of the notable design elements is the bottle’s writable back label, intended as a place to record memories. According to the brand “The back label features a dedicated space to record your hunt, your companions, and the moments worth remembering.” Interestingly, given the uniqueness of the back label, I can’t find a picture of it anywhere. So, we’ll just have to use our imagination for now. The release began with Kentucky-first availability at Log Still Distillery and select local retailers, with broader distribution expanding to additional markets beginning in fall 2025.

Tasting Notes – Remington Reserve “Open Season” Bourbon Review

Let’s taste it:

🛏 Rested: 15 minutes in a Glencairn
👉🏻 Nose: Moderately sweet with sweet apples, cherry candy, caramel, tart orange peels and hints of rye spices and leather; mild dry oak; alcohol vapor is appropriate for the proof.
👉🏻 Taste: Mildly sweet with simple syrup, dark cherries and caramel; mild rye spices are evident later on; fairly light bodied.
👉🏻 Finish: Increasingly dry with dark cherries, mild simple syrup sweetness, mild capsaicin spices, dry wood and mild char; moderately long with a pleasant warmth and lingering dryness.

Sample bottle and glencairn

Summary

The flavors in the nose of Remington Reserve Open Season Bourbon are more full than expected for the proof. There is a complexity and depth that I was not expecting. The taste, however, is fairly light bodied, which feels more in line with its 86 proof.

The finish brings a surprising increasing dryness, though plenty of the earlier flavors linger. They are joined by a pleasant, fairly mild capsaicin-like spiciness along with dry wood and mild char.

Conclusion

Overall, this is an enjoyable, lower-proof pour. It is satisfying enough to please most bourbon drinkers, with a very pleasant combination of flavors and a surprisingly full and complex nose. If you’re looking for a satisfying lower-proof pour that has a bit more complexity than some of the big brand products, then you’ll want to give Remington Reserve a try. Have you tried the Remington Reserve Open Season Bourbon? What did you think? Cheers!🥃
