“Three Ingredients and the Truth“
Country Music’s Dierks Bentley recently released his first whiskey, called ROW 94. The whiskey is named in part for the year Dierks moved to Nashville as well as Nashville’s Music ROW. The bourbon, however, is distilled at Green River Distilling Co, in Owensboro, KY. According to the brand, it is said to be “crafted with Three Ingredients and The Truth – premium grain, purified Kentucky limestone water, and cultivated yeast.”

The Details – ROW 94 Bourbon by Dierks Bentley Review
Made with 70% Kentucky-grown corn, 21% rye, and 9% malted barley, ROW 94 is a 94-proof whiskey distilled at Green River Distilling Company. It is aged for 4 years in new White Oak barrels with a level 4 char. I have to say, I am impressed by the way that Dierks has embraced Green River Distilling Co as part of his brand. Many people who source bourbon, do not do this. He openly discloses where it was distilled, even putting Green River’s DSP number on his bottle label. I respect that.
Tasting Notes – Row 94 Bourbon Whiskey Review
Let’s taste it:
🛏 Rested for 15 minutes in a Glencairn Glass
👉🏻Nose: Light sweet caramel, sweet apples, cherries, mild rye spices, and dry oak; alcohol vapor a little more than expected for the proof
👉🏻Taste: Fairly sweet simple syrup, light caramel, cherries & mild dry oak
👉🏻Finish: Sweetness fades, growing black pepper spice; moderate long with lingering spice; later, mild barrel char; pleasant warmth
The nose of ROW 94 Bourbon Whiskey has both sweetness and spiciness, with light, sweet caramel, sweet apples, cherries, mild rye spices, and dry oak. The alcohol vapor initially seemed a little more pronounced than I would have expected for the proof. However, with time, and on subsequent pours, it became more appropriate. The taste is fairly sweet, with simple syrup, light caramel, cherries and mild dry oak. Black pepper spice grows considerably in the moderately long finish. There is mild smoky barrel char towards the end, and I am left with a pleasant warmth.
Flavors Are Pleasant, But On The Lighter Side
Overall, the flavors in the nose and taste of ROW 94 Bourbon Whiskey are on the lighter side, but quite pleasant. Upon first opening the bottle, I thought that there really wasn’t much to this bourbon. However, after a few days, it had opened up a quite a bit. The flavors became a bit more full, but still lean to the milder side. The fruit in the nose is enjoyable, and is balanced nicely by the mild rye spices and mild dry oak. The taste has considerable sweetness from simple syrup, which pairs well with the classic bourbon flavors of caramel, cherries and mild dry oak. Given the relative subtlety of the flavors up to this point, the degree of spice in the finish came as a bit of a surprise.
Conclusion – ROW 94 Bourbon Whiskey Review
ROW 94 Bourbon is easy to drink due to its lighter character. I am assuming the target audience for Dierks Bentley will prefer this style, since he probably doesn’t regularly play to an audience made up only of high proof drinking bourbon nerds, like me. Given that, Row 94 would be well suited to those who enjoy a more subtle flavor profile, although they may be surprised by the considerable spice in the finish. Nonetheless, I think they would soon grow to appreciate that nice contrast in flavors.
Have you tried ROW 94 Bourbon? What did you think? Cheers!🥃
