The Oldest Whiskey Yet in Sagamore Spirit’s Reserve Series
The 2025 Sagamore Spirit 10-Year-Old Straight Rye Whiskey marks the oldest age-stated rye released to date by the Maryland distillery. Part of the Reserve Series, this straight rye whiskey was aged ten years in new charred American white oak barrels and bottled at 110.8 proof (55.4% ABV). The release became available in September 2025 and can be purchased at the Sagamore Spirit Distillery in Baltimore, Maryland, and through select premium retailers across the United States. Each release in the Reserve Series highlights a distinct approach to rye whiskey—some through barrel finishing, others through extended aging, as with this 10-year-old expression.

Tasting Notes – Sagamore Spirit 10-Year-Old Rye Review
Let’s taste it:
🛏 Rested: 15 minutes in a Glencairn
👉🏻 Nose: Sweet floral notes, grape soda, cookie dough, caramel, and tart lime citrus. Mild cloves appear later on, along with mild dry oak. Alcohol is noticeable but appropriate for the 110.8 proof.
👉🏻 Taste: Moderately sweet, with tart lime citrus and sweet caramel.
👉🏻 Finish: Rapidly turns dry, with moderate white pepper spice and dry wood, along with lingering tart citrus and sweetness. Fairly long, leaving a pleasant warmth.
Summary
Older ryes are not like younger ryes—the bright citrus and heavy spice are often replaced to varying degrees by richer, deeper flavors, some more commonly associated with bourbon. Don’t get me wrong—Sagamore Spirit 10-Year-Old Rye is unmistakably a rye—but it has developed some of those confectionary, sweeter notes in the nose and palate, while the finish grows quite dry with the anticipated spice. Still, there’s plenty of clove and citrus to remind me that this is, without question, a rye.
Conclusion – Sagamore Spirit 10-Year-Old Rye Review
I’ve been a Sagamore Spirit fan since their early days, so I had high hopes for Sagamore Spirit 10-Year-Old Rye, and it did not disappoint. If you’re a fan of full-flavored rye whiskey that leans more toward citrus notes than sharp spice, with added sweet confectionary and floral tones, this one is well worth trying. Have you tried any of Sagamore Spirit’s older ryes? What did you think? Cheers! 🥃
