Introduction – Ten Day Toasted Oak Bourbon Review

Ten Day Bourbon was founded by three Kentucky-based doctors who created the brand to honor their Prohibition-era colleagues—physicians and dentists who once prescribed whiskey every ten days to keep the spirit flowing legally. Staying true to that history while adding their own touch, the founders continue to explore new ways to shape flavor and character. Their latest release, the Toasted Oak Finish Bourbon, does just that by applying a toasted French oak stave finish to a seven-year bourbon.

Tasting Notes – Ten Day Toasted Oak Bourbon Review

Let’s taste it:

🛏 Rested for 15 minutes in a Ten Day Kenzie Dram on the first day, then a Glencairn Glass on the second day, when I got much fuller flavors

👉🏻 Nose: Moderately sweet; mixed berry jam; light sweet floral notes; light sweet caramel, rye spices, light dry spicy oak; alcohol appropriate for the proof

👉🏻 Taste: Sweet simple syrup and light caramel; dark berries in the background increase with time; dry spicy oak, tannins, hints of black licorice

👉🏻 Finish: Dark berries, black licorice and dry spicy oak linger, white pepper spice continues to grow to a noticeable intensity; long; increasingly dry; smoky barrel char later becomes more dominant later on and lingers

Sample bottle and Glencairn - Ten Day Toasted Oak Bourbon Review - French Oak

The nose starts off moderately sweet, with mixed berry jam and sweet floral notes, mixed with light sweet caramel, rye spices and a light dry spicy oak in the background. The alcohol vapor is appropriate for the proof.

The taste is a mix of sweet simple syrup and light sweet caramel with dark berries in the background, combined with dry spicy oak and tannins, as well as a touch of black licorice that emerges later on. Those flavors continue into the finish where white pepper spice becomes moderately intense. As the spice diminishes, the long finish grows increasingly dry, with tannins and a lingering smoky barrel char that blends with the remnants of the white pepper spice and dry oak. An overall warming sensation remains throughout.

Conclusion – Ten Day Toasted Oak Bourbon Review

Ten Day Toasted Oak makes a clear transition from its opening notes of berries and caramel into a much drier, spicier, and smokier profile. The shift is more pronounced than I expected, with white pepper, dry oak, and barrel char taking the lead as the fruit gives way. It’s bold, flavorful, and a bit of a roller coaster—one that may surprise you at first but grows more enjoyable with each sip. If you like a bourbon that doesn’t hold back, and you don’t mind a finish that leans dry, spicy, and smoky, this one is worth a try. Have you tried Ten Day Toasted Oak Bourbon? What did you think? Cheers! 🥃
