Winchester Double Oaked Bourbon Review
Winchester Double Oaked Bourbon is blended from older bourbons than the brand's Kentucky Straight Bourbon, and it also spends additional finishing time in a second new charred oak barrel. Does the extra age and finishing deliver the depth it promises? Read my full review to find out!

A Tale of Two Bourbons
Winchester Ammunition has officially entered the whiskey market with the launch of two bourbons: the subject of this review, Winchester Double Oaked Bourbon, and Winchester Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, which I have previously reviewed.
A number of years back, Total Wine & More carried a Winchester Bourbon line as part of its Spirits Direct program. Although the brand has since been discontinued, there are still a few bottles remaining, and therefore the bourbon still appears on the TW website. That was an entirely different line of bourbons, produced by different distillers, and with some using the TerrePURE rapid aging process. That line of bourbon was also officially licensed by the Winchester Ammunition brand, but varies widely from this new brand in many ways.
The New Winchester Bourbon from Model 1866 Distillery
These new bourbons represent a clear reset for the brand. Officially licensed by Winchester Ammunition (Olin Corporation), the new lineup replaces the prior Winchester Bourbon entirely and introduces new packaging, a new distillation source, a higher price point, a new distillery and new personnel. Distilled in Kentucky but blended, finished, “crafted” and bottled at Model 1866 Distillery, also known as Ugly Dog Distillery, in Chelsea, Michigan, the Double Oaked expression builds on the core Kentucky Straight Bourbon by using a blend of 4 to 6 year-old bourbons, with an additional period of finishing in new, charred American oak.

Tasting Notes – Winchester Double Oaked Bourbon Review
Let’s taste it:
🛏 Rested: 15 minutes in a Glencairn
👉🏻 Nose: Butterscotch, medium dark caramel, vanilla & sweet apples; sweet peaches later on; tangerines; light cinnamon & a touch of cloves; alcohol vapor is appropriate for the proof
👉🏻 Taste: Apple pie with some tannins, dry wood, hot cinnamon, black pepper spice, tart lemon lime citrus later on
👉🏻 Finish: Increasingly dry with moderate black pepper spice and mild tannins; lingering apple pie and sweet peaches; sugary sweetness; mild char and dry wood in the end; long with a pleasant warmth & lingering spice
Summary
The nose is rich, with confectionary and sweet fruit notes that immediately bring caramel apple pie to mind. Light spice and citrus help balance the sweetness without overpowering it. On the palate, those flavors remain but become increasingly spicy and dry as they head into the finish. The majority of the flavors linger on for quite a while, with the gamut of sweetness, fruits, spice, dry oak and tannins.
Conclusion
I am very much enjoying the Winchester Double Oaked Bourbon. I love a good caramel apple pie, and this bourbon reminds me of one. In addition, those sweet rich and fruity flavors that transition throughout the sip to a fairly dry and spicy finish, make for a perfect combination for me. If this sounds tasty to you, too, you’ll definitely want to give this bourbon a try! Have you tried the Winchester Double Oaked Bourbon? What did you think? Cheers!🥃
